Circle Game

Circle Game by Lynn B. WelschLynn B. Welsch hopes someone can help her recover her original quilt called “Circle Game.” It was last seen on August 10, 2011 when it was shipped by FedEx Ground to the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas. The last bar code scan of the package was made in Las Cruces, New Mexico. FedEx is suggesting she file a claim.

This origial quilt is 15″ square. It has a black background combined with purple, lavender, gold, orange, and lime green fabrics. It is a miniature art quilt, abstract design, with various sized overlapping and interwoven circles and bars. It is machine appliqued and machine quilted with rayon thread. It was made in 2010 and it has a label on the back with all of Lynn’s contact information.

Yellow and Orange Lone Star Quilt Top

Heidi Munroe last saw her Lone Star quilt top in January 2011. It was taken from her car in Ayer, Massachusetts. It was made in 1938 as a wedding present for her parents, but it had never been finished. Heidi saved it all these years, and she was taking it to show someone, when it was apparently stolen from the car.

The main colors of this quilt is yellow, orange, cream, and white. The design features one big Lone Star. There is no design on the fabric. The outer border may have been made from a sheet.

Daylily Onepatch by Ann Maley

Ann Miller Malley hopes someone has found her Daylily Onepatch quilt which she made in 1994. The quilt belongs to Tom and Suellen Knight. It was stolen from their seasonal home on St. Simon’s Island, Georgia when they were not in residence. It was last seen sometime around 1996.

Ann’s quilt is 66.5″ by 51″. The main colors are yellow, orange, red, and green. It is machine pieced, hand appliqued, machine quilted, and it has beading at the center of some of the flowers. Except for the borders, every piece is a curved, half-petal/leaf shape. This became Ann’s logo and she used it on her stationary and business cards. This quilt has a label sewn to the lower right corner on the back. It has Ann’s name, the name of the quilt, and probably something about it being an original tessellation.

Sami’s Log Cabin Quilt

Tabitha Lustig is hoping someone has found the quilt she made for Samantha Casas. The quilt was made in 2008 for Sami’s 18th birthday, and it is the first quilt Tabitha made using free-motion quilting. The quilt was last seen in Henderson, Nevada.

It is a queen-size log cabin quilt, made mostly of black, white, red, orange, and yellow fabrics. The backing is orange flannel. It is machine pieced and machine quilted. Tabitha also quilted suns, moons, and the phrase “I love you Sami” in the quilt. Sami’s step-mother threw the quilt away.

Tabitha writes, “I am hoping that someone, if indeed the quilt was thrown away…by some miracle saved it and may still have it.” If you’ve seen a quilt that fits this description, please contact Tabitha at [email protected].

Noah’s Quilt

Noah's Quilt

In February 2010 Debra Sue Zimmerman made a quilt for her friend’s son. She mailed it from Voorheesville, New York but when she addressed it, she accidentally transposed two of the four digits in the street address. Although she included her return address, nothing was ever returned. Both she and the recipient followed up with their respective post offices to no avail.

This is a machine pieced and machine quilted, twin size quilt. The top is made up of black and white blocks with a smattering of yellow blocks. It has a black, white, and yellow pieced border, and the backing is bright orange. Some of the black and white fabrics include the alphabet and a crossword puzzle fabric. There is a dedication to “Noah” on the back in one corner. It is signed by Debra Sue and dated with her SpiralZ Studios symbol (a spiral on top with a Z in the middle and another spiral on the bottom in a vertical design). The label is hand written and hand drawn.

Recovered! Fish Tank

Fish Tank by Nancy Ryan

Nancy Ryan was hoping someone had seen her original quilt, “Fish Tank.” It was last seen on April 27, 2010 in Gainesville, Florida. It had been displayed at the Quilting Natural Florida II Exhibit and was being returned by a commercial shipping company. The company said it was delivered to her California address and left on the front porch. When Nancy returned home, the package was no where to be found.

Thankfully, one month later, Nancy reported that her quilt had been recovered! The shipper had delivered it to the wrong address, and it is now safely back home with Nancy!

This quilt was made in 2009 and is 36″ wide by 24″ long. Nancy used bright batiks, especially turquoise and orange. The quilt is appliquéd and machine quilted with specialty threads. Fancy machine stitches were used when the sheer fabric was applied.

Recovered! Red Patches Quilt

The baby quilt shown above was made by Rita Hodge in 2010. She sold it on Etsy and it was sent by Registered Mail from Melbourne, Australia to Milan, Itay on February 15. She was able to track it all the way to Italy, but it never reached its final destination.

On May 1, 2010, Rita reported that the quilt has been recovered! Apparently it spent two months sitting in an Italian Post Office, unclaimed by the recipient. Exactly two months after its arrival in Italy, it was returned to sender, and it arrived on Rita’s veranda in Australia just six days later. The parcel was intact and unopened. Rita says, “It has restored my faith in our postal services!”

This quilt is an original design. It features a wide variety of mainly red and white cotton and linen fabrics. Many of the fabrics are screen printed by well-known Australian designers so they are unique and easily recognizable. It is machine quilted with vertical lines approximately 1-1/2-inches apart, and it is bound with a red and white striped fabric. The back of the quilt features a red and orange single repeat panel by Australian designer Saffron Craig. The fabric features two owls sitting in a tree. The quilt was labeled with a small label sewn into the binding in the bottom left corner on the back of the quilt. The label reads, “Red Pepper Quilts.”

Bright Jazz

Bright Jazz by Marilyn Kirschen

Marilyn Kirschen hopes to recover her quilt called “Bright Jazz” which is her original design. It was last seen on January 14, 2010 in the Seattle, Washington area. A shipping company dropped it off at Marilyn’s home on January 19, but the quilt was not at her home when she returned that evening.

The 24″ x 30″ quilt was made in 2009. The main colors include a yellow orange graduated fabric along with blues, greens, and purples. This quilt is machine appliqued and quilted. It also has couched yarns and beaded embellishments.

Halloween Moon

Halloween Moon by Emma Thomas-McGinnis

Emma Thomas-McGinnis would like to recovery her "Halloween Moon" quilt which was stolen on August 19, 2009 when her home in Urbandale, Iowa was burglarized. She made the quilt for David McGinnis.

This is Emma’s original design based upon a contemporary circle block (machine appliqued) and an hourglass border. It is lap size, and the main colors are black and orange. It uses Halloween fabrics, Moda Moons, and Fall Back in Time line fabrics. The backing is black fleece and it does not have batting. It is machine pieced and machine quilted. Emma made the quilt in September 2008. It does not have a label.

Sunflower Stack and Whack

Sunflower by Marlene Peterson

Marlene Peterson is looking for a Sunflower Stack and Whack quilt that went missing during a move. It was last seen in 2005 in Web City, Missouri.

This queen size quilt is mainly yellow, green, and orange and features sunflower fabrics. It is machine pieced and machine quilted and has some embroidery. The label says, “From the heart and hand of Grandma Peterson, Sunflower Stack and Whack, to Angelique Peterson.” The label is applied with heat and bond to the lower left corner of the back.
