Country Bride Quilt

Country Bride Quilt by Fiona Gondek MurrayFiona (Gondek) Murray is searching for a Country Bride Quilt made for the wedding of her best friend, Sherri Andrews. The quilt was last seen in Port Washington, Long Island, New York. Her friend was living in an apartment with her husband when they broke up. Both left the apartment in a hurry and neither remember taking the quilt, nor can they find it. Sherri’s brother, who was the last to leave the aprtment, said there was nothing left behind. Fiona is hoping it may have been donated somewhere, and someone may have purchased it.

This quilt is queen size, approximately 88″ by 108″ It features pink hearts and doves, green leaves and stems on a muslin background. It is hand appliqued. The vines and birds’ eyes are embroidered. It was made in 1996. It has a label written to Sherri and her husband, David Mroczka.

Country Bride by Fiona Gondek MurrayFiona writes, “I hope someone has found it and lets me know. It took me three years to make the quilt and it feels like I have lost a loved one. Adelaide Collection Sampler

The Adelaide Collection Sampler owned by Michele HillMichele Hill has experienced the loss of two large shipping parcels, both lost by a shipping company. The two boxes have been missing since the first week of October 12, 2011. One box containing the single quilt was last seen in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The other box containing all the small items was last seen in Pemberton, Western Australia.

One of the items missing is “The Adelaide Collection Sampler,” shown to the left. This is an original quilt designed by Michele, made for her by Jill Gray, and quilted by Judy Simcock. It is 76-1/2″ by 76-1/2″. The main colors are burgundy and greens on a cream background. All of the fabrics are from the Adelaide collection by In the Beginning Fabrics (designed by Jason Yenter and Michele Hill). This quilt is fused and machine appliqued, machine pieced, and machine quilted. It was made in 2010. It is labeled on the back.

Trio by Michele HillOther items missing include several small quilts, cushions, a book cover, tea and coffee cozies, books, teaching materials, notes, photos, and fabrics. The small quilt to the right is another one that is missing. Michele used William Morris fabrics and original applique motifs inspired by the historic designer. It is fused, hand, and machine appliqued, machine pieced, and machine quilted. Some of the other items are embroidered and beaded. They were made over five years, dating from 2005 to 2010.

Karen Stefiuk quilts

During January 2011 eleven of Karen Stefiuk’s quilts disappeared when her van and trailer were stolen. They were parked outside of her home in Maple Ridge, British Columbia in preparation of a move.

“Just Beneath The Surface” is an original quilt. It is 29″ square. It has orange, reds and yellows on a dark blue background, and there is green in the center. The center is a very detailed interlocking Japanese design. It is hand pieced and machine quilted, and it is embellished with beads in the center of the flowers. There is a label on the back in the lower center. This quilt was shown at the 2006 Canadian Quilter’s Association National Show and it won a Judge’s Choice award.

“Lionheart” is also an original design. It is 23″ by 27″. It is a wholecloth quilt dye-painted with muted greens and browns. It is machine quilted with Superior thread. The image is a photo Karen took at a safari park in Oregon. It was made in 2004. It also has a label on the back with Karen’s name, the quilt’s name, and her aold ddress. This quilt was displayed at the 2004 Association of Pacific West Quilt Show in Seattle.

The photo above is a detail of “Gung Hay Fat Choy” which is a 30″ diameter round quilt. Another original quilt, it uses a blue batik with Chinese characters and the Hoffman 2002 quilt challenge fabric. It is hand appliqued and machine quilted. Like the others, it is labeled with Karen’s name, the quilt’s name, and her old address. Karen writes, “This is one of my favorite pieces, made for the 2002 Hoffman Challenge winning 2nd prize in the applique competition.”

Crazy in the Garden

Crazy in the Garden by Allison AllerAllison Aller is hoping that someone has found her missing quilt called “Crazy in the Garden.” It was last seen on May 14, 2011 at Quilt Market in Salt Lake City. It was in the C & T Publishers booth, but it never arrived back at C & T’s headquarters after the market was over.

This original quilt is 46″ by 46″. This heavily embellished quilt features garden colors; blue, green, pink, orange, and purple dominate. The quilt is covered with three dimensional flowers. It also has appliqued, machine embroidered hummingbirds and butterflies. There are several beaded butterflies as well.

This is the quilt that is on the cover of her book, “Allie Aller’s Crazy Quilting: Modern Piecing and Embellishing Techniques for Joyful Stitching.” The quilt also won a second place in the Embellished Quilts category at the IQA Houston Show in 2010.

There is a label on the lower right corner of the back that says, “Crazy in the Garden by Allison Aller, Washougal, Washington, 2009.”

Recovered! A Day at the Beach

A Day At the Beach by Mary Leahy

This quilt was stolen from Heartbeat Quilts in Hyannis, Massachusetts on Cape Cod on July 15, 2003. “A Day at the Beach” was made by Mary Leahy. It is the cover quilt of the pattern with the same name. This one is the original quilt made before the pattern was sold commercially.

And now we have a happy ending!!! On July 8, 2011 this quilt was returned to Heartbeat Quilts along with a note of apology stating that the person who stole it has sought help for her problems.

This is a small lap quilt with appliqued summer motifs including a lobster, crab, beach chair, beach ball, umbrella, fish, scallop shell, lighthouse, whale, fish, and two starfish. It is machine appliqued onto a light blue background. The alternating blocks are light blue, yellow and teal pinwheels. The hand quilted and machine pieced quilt is 38″ by 50″. It was made in 2000.

Home on the Range

Home on the Range by Susan PaceleySusan Paceley hopes to recover her quilt called “Home on the Range.” She last saw it in April 2010 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when she shipped it to David. It was stolen off his front porch where the delivery company left it.

Susan made this quilt from a commercial pattern. It is 41″ by 41″. It is made from earth tone fabrics including brown, beige, blue and green. It is fused and machine applique, machine pieced, and machine quilted. She made it in 2010. There is a label that has a paper pieced bison. It also says something like “made by Susan Paceley and given to David Kennedy in April 2010 to celebrate his graduation from Carnegie Mellon’s architecture program. The label is hand stitched to the lower right corner of the quilt back.

Doodle's Quilt by Dorothy Viola Holobaugh

Judith is searching for a quilt that was made by her mother, Dorothy Viola Holobaugh. It was made for Judith’s daughter, Christine Viola (Doodle) Cowan Cary. The quilt was last seen in Rancho Santa Fe, California. It became missing during a divorce, and it may have been given away or sold, along with another quilt and an afghan made by Dorothy.

This is an original design. It is twin size. It is yellow with white and the border is red. The quilt features a little girl doing different dances. Each applique is unique, It was created in 1976 by a grandmother for the granddaughter that was named for her. Judith doesn’t rememeber exactly what is on the label, but it may include the words “Doodle” or “Christy”, “Dancing Girls”, Dorothy’s name, and the year.

Judith writes, “This is an original quilt made especially for my daughter the same year my mother made quilts for three other granddaughters – all designed around the girls’ interests. It is breaking my heart that this quilt is missing…as well as the other one and a hand crocheted afghan mom made for Doodle. The quilts and afghan may be in Mexico as the ex was in the habit of giving his handy man stuff to take home to Mexico.”

Jana’s Special

Shara-Dee Seiter hopes some one has found a pink and white, twin size quilt that she made for Jana. She last saw it in Phoenix, Arizona. It was possibly lost during her family’s move to Tempe, Arizona in 1982 or maybe shortly after that.

The quilt was made with pink gingham and there was hand quilting across the top that said something like, “Sleep tight.” Every square on the quilt depicted something of Jana’s young life: her family, school, church, etc. Every square was hand appliqued and embroidered. It may have also had Jana’s name on the quilt.

Helen Bettinger is searching for her Doggy Days Quilt. It was last seen in July 2010 at the Reno Downtown Library in Reno, Nevada. It is not know if it was stolen or if it is just missing.

This quilt is crib size, and the main colors are yellow and blue. It is made from a commercial pattern. There are four dogs centered on the quilt. It is machine pieced, machine appliqued, and machine quilted. There is a label attached to a back corner.

Johnny's Teddy Bear Quilt by Cathy Smith

Melissa Bair is looking for a baby quilt that Cathy Smith made for Johnny Bair. It was made from a pastel blue, green, and beige teddy bear panel. The three teddy bears are made out of plush fabric and the quilt has the name “Johnny” embroidered in the center. It is about 36″ by 48″, and it is signed on the back of a solid square.

This quilt was last seen on July 18, 2010 at Courtyard of Marriott on Southport Road in Indianapolis, Indiana. The quilt was accidentally left behind in a hotel room, but it was not turned in by the housekeeping staff.
