Katie's Graduation Quilt by Sandii Street

Sandii Street was hoping to recover Katie’s Graduation Quilt. It was last seen on February 22, 2010 in Valparaiso, Indiana. It was being sent by a shipping company when they told Sandii the quilt was destroyed by fire.

Sandii made the quilt from a commercial pattern. It is 108″ by 120″. It is machine pieced and machine quilted in 2009. The main colors are purple, pink, lime green, white, blue, and turquoise. She used very bright, primary colors which she calls “so loud you need sunglasses.” It was supposed to be a graduation gift for her granddaughter, and it was near completion when it was destroyed.

This quilt, though burned, has now been returned.

Recovered! Katrina’s Storm at Sea

Katrina's Storm at Sea

Katrina's Storm at Sea

Betty Young needed help recovering a quilt that was shipped to her daughter in Oklahoma City. The package was shipped on September 28, 2009. When the package reached Oklahoma City, a clerk at the shipping company decided the mailing address was not valid, so the package was not put on the delivery truck. No attempt was made to contact Betty or her husband, even though three phone numbers were included in the paperwork. The address was, indeed, valid and a complaint has been filed. Once the complaint was filed, the package was mysteriously sent to Random House Publishing in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Happily, during January 2010 Random House Publishing finally found Betty’s quilt and returned it at their expense!

This quilt is a Storm at Sea pattern which took Betty ten years to complete. The focus fabric is a turquoise background with geckos in shades of greens, blues, purples, and lavenders. Also in the package was approximately six yards of Minkee in white, pink, and lavender.

Joe's Life by Sunnye Sherman

Joe's Life by Sunnye Sherman

Sunnye Sherman is offering a reward for the return of the quilt that she made for her son, Joseph Sherman. It was last seen at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana in early May 2008. They think it fell off the pile of his things as he was moving out of his dorm, between Hillenbrand Residence Hall and the parking garage.

This quilt is made from Joe’s t-shirts including those from Brown School, Louisville Youth Orchestra, soccer, Brown school theater productions, and two black Harley Davidson shirts. This quilt is a little larger than a twin, almost a double. The main colors are blue, yellow, and white. It has a denim back and yellow thread. It took Sunnye 2-1/2 years to make this quilt. It was her first endeavor for her son when he went to college.

Please contact Sunnye through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page if you’ve found this quilt.

Butterfly Scrap Quilt

Oct 02 2008

Lucinda (Cindy) McVey is searching for a Butterfly Scrap Quilt which was made by Grace A. Green. It is full-bed size. Yellow is the dominant color, and the sashing and borders are lilac. The quilt was made in 1968. It was last seen in 1970 or 1971 when it was misplaced during a move from Oklahoma to Indianapolis. Her husband stored some of their belongings in a small junk/furniture store on East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. When they went back to collect their belongings, the store had changed hands and their stuff was gone, including Lucinda’s quilt, a china dog collection, her great-grandmother’s blue pin dot china shoes, etc. This was the only quilt her grandmother had made for her. It was quilted by machine in a rounded zigzap stitch about 1″ apart. The binding was wrapped from the back. The butterflies had rounded wings and were appliqued in black floss.

If you’ve seen a quilt that matches this description, please contact Lucinda at darylmcvey@sbcglobal.net.

Pink Sunbonnet Girl

Aug 19 2007

Linda Bender is hoping to recover her pink Sunbonnet Girl quilt which she accidentally left behind in the basement of her apartment in Chandler, Indiana when she moved. She last saw the quilt in July 1981. She had friends helping her move, so it was several months before it was discovered missing.

The twin size quilt was made by Linda’s grandmother. It is made with pink fabrics and has a white background. It was hand pieced and hand quilted around 1960. At the time Linda last saw it, the quilt had some damage and needed a few repairs. Her great-grandmother was a Vanmeter and her grandmother was a Field. It could have been made when her grandmother’s last name was Pierson.

Please contact Linda through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.
