Recovered! Three Stooges

Jul 01 2009

Three Stooges by Deb Skoglund

In 2007 Deb Skoglund made a Three Stooges quilt for her husband, Jon. She made it as a Christmas present for Jon, who is away eight months a year. The quilt was last seen aboard the merchant marine vessel Admr. Wheeler/Guam. It was lost during shipment. Information about the missing quilt was posted in September 2008.

In June 2009 Deb’s quilt was finally recovered at a facility in Guam. They had stopped sending packages last year when the Feds moved in. A crew mate of Deb’s husband stood in line for over three hours in 90+ degree heat for the chance to search for missing packages. All unclaimed packages were scheduled to be destroyed the next day. Deb writes, “He has my undying gratitude!!!”

Christmas Angel

Dec 12 2008

In 1986 Cathy Sisk McCoy made the Christmas Angel pattern found in Better Homes & Gardens Christmas Traditions. It is a quilt made entirely of 2-inch squares and has a red eyelet border. The finished height is about 10-12 feet. It is machine pieced and machine quilted.

This quilt was last seen in 1989 or 1990 at St. Rita Catholic Church, Fort Worth, Texas. It was removed from the storage closet. The quilt was displayed in the church for Guardian Angel Day for the school children. The director hung it in the bell tower closet for Cathy to pick up later, but when she came to get it, it was gone. It is not known if it was stolen or mistakenly given away. The quilt was very special to Cathy’s family and it was made to hang in their living room.

If you’ve seen this quilt, please contact Cathy through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.

Absolut Pennsylvania and Joy to the World

Oct 02 2008

Absolut Pennsylvania by Margaret Cusack

Margaret Cusack is searching for two pieces of stitched artwork which are missing. Both pieces of art were in the same box. They were last seen on May 2, 2008 at the shipping company office in Maspeth, New York. The shipping company had last listed it as “on vehicle for delivery” but it was not delivered and it is no longer in their system.

The first, “Absolut Pennsylvania,” was commissioned by Absolut Vodka to use as an advertising poster. In the center is the Absolut Vodka bottle in yellow with hand-embroidered, blue lettering. Above the bottle are the words, Absolut Pennsylvania. The stitched image is very quilt-like. The colors are yellow, red, and blue. The bold yellow diamond shapes include symbols of Pennsylvania including a pretzel, the Liberty Bell, a guitar, an I-beam (for the steel industry), a folk art weather vane, etc. This stitched artwork is 28″ by 34″, and it is labeled on the back of the framed artwork with Margaret’s information and the artwork’s title. It is framed in a white wooden frame and the front of the artwork is protected with plexiglas.

Christmas Advent Calendar

Jul 15 2008

Christmas Advent Calendar by Karen Smith

Karen Smith is hoping to recover a Christmas Advent Calendar that she made. It became missing during their move to Texas with the military in November 2007. Their household goods were moved by the a company contracted with the military from Clarksville, Tennessee (Fort Campbell) held in San Antonio, Texas for six months, and then sent to San Angelo, Texas. The last time it was seen, it was in a long, triangular FedEx tube.

This is a felt Christmas Advent wall hanging that was machine appliqud by Karen. It hangs on the wall with a wooden rod. The border is trimmed in red satin ribbon and gold cord. There are 24 little felt ornaments that stick on with velcro. Karen used the Vogue pattern 2794 shown to the left. She’s not sure if the calendar is labeled or not, but if it is she most likely wrote her name of the back with a Sharpie marker. She may have signed it “Karen Smith” or “Karen Pippinger Smith.”

Please contact Karen through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page. (Please do not use this contact to request a copy of the pattern.)

Vintage Cars by Laura Cain

Vintage Cars by Laura Cain

Laura Cain hopes to recover the “Vintage Cars” quilt she made for her step-son, Tim Cain. Laura made the quilt as a Christmas present for Tim in 1983. He had left it folded up in a hide-a-bed sofa that was placed in a storage unit. Eventually the contents were sold because the rent was not paid. He didn’t tell his parents until after everything got sold off sometime around 1985 in Eugene, Oregon.

This quilt is a generous queen size. It is mainly white and features vintage car blocks painted with Tri-Chem ball point paints. Laura used commercial designs by “Aunt Martha’s.” It includes a Cathedral Window print and navy blue sashing.
