Grandmother’s Sunflower Quilt

Jeanelle Guilbeaux is searching for a Sunflower Quilt (above) made by her grandmother, Bessie Sessum. This quilt was last seen on May 4, 2013 when her mom’s house was broken into and boxes of items were stolen. The quilt was in one of those boxes. A police report was filed. Jeanette believes this quilt would likely be found in a flea market or antique shop around Lafayette or the surrounding parishes because some of the other stolen items were found that way. Or it could still be in the home of the thief.

This quilt is full size. The main colors are green and yellow. Each quilt block has a solid green background and they are surrounded by solid yellow sashing. The cornerstones are green with printed flower petals. The backing is a floral print. This quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted. It was made about 1940.

If you find this quilt, please contact Jeanelle at cajunelle2@gmail.com.
