Grandmother’s Flower Garden Variation

HallbergLaVonne-GrandmotherPlease keep an eye out for this Grandmother’s Flower Garden variation. This quilt was made by LaVonne Hallberg’s mother sometime between 1935 through 1940. It was last seen during the summer of 2006 in Royal, Iowa. It was taken from her mother’s house by someone with a key, or someone who was looking at the house with the realtor. LaVonne’s sisters didn’t want their mother to find out it had been stolen, so they never filed a police report. This quilt would have been passed down to one of the daughters if it had not disappeared first.

This Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt fits a double bed. The main colors are blues, pinks, greens, yellows, and purple. The centers are plain colored with a floral fabric around the outside of each flower. This particular quilt is distinctive due to the purple diamonds that surround each flower. This quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted.
