Sunshine to Shadows and Bears Around the World
During 2001 Rose Bishop made this full-sized quilt for her daughter's graduation. It is a double sided quilt. It is hand appliqued, machine pieced and machine quilted. The quilt was last seen August 17, 2003.
On February 7, 2005, Rose received the exciting news that Karen's suitcase containing the quilt was found and it would be home soon!
The first side (shown above) is a variation of the Ohio Star block with three pictures of Karen: one as a baby, one in first grade and one at her graduation. The main colors on this side range from white to deep maroon.
The second side (shown to the right) is a square patch design that Karen designed. The main colors are pink, red, and orange variations with bears having tea appliqued on top. One bear is a Paddington bear. Prints include fabrics with checkers, hearts, stars, and butterflies. After the picture was taken, Rose appliqued a big 12-15", smiling, furry bear in the lower corner. The quilt also includes a black bow tie from Karen's first job.
