Blue Hawaiian Quilt Blocks

Can you help Lucy Dean locate these applique blocks which were made by her mother? The blocks were last seen on August 27, 2012 in Wailuku, Hawaii. They were being sent to Pine, Colorado. They apparently were delivered, but disappeared out of her friend’s mailbox, along with some other mail, sometime around November 4, 2012.

The reverse applique blocks were intended for a double bed size quilt. The Hawaiian designs were hand appliqued. The main fabrics used are a blue batik and a white-on-white Hawaiian print.

A friend wrote a blog post about the missing blocks, http://mauivacationguide.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-missing-hawaiian-quilt-heart.html

Lucy wrote, “This quilt was cut out and two of the squares appliqued by my Mother who passed away last year. I had the remaining 4 squares appliqued by a local quilter and my friend and I intended to assemble it in Colorado when I was there. These quilt pieces like most on your website mean much more to me than anyone else… I am devastated to have lost them.”

If you can help Lucy, please email her at lucy@globalbizso.com.

Princess, Baby Zoo, and Fireman Quilts

Claudia Donolli is asking for help locating this Princess Quilt in December 2011. She mailed it in a box with a letter and two quilts, on May 23, 2012 from Clayton, North Carolina to Lake Grove, New York, but it never arrived at her niece’s house. At first she was told the packaged was marked as delivered, but it never got there. Then she was told it was lost in New York.

The Princess Quilt is 40″ by 45″. It has a gold crown in the middle with pictures of princesses around it. It has beads on the crown.

The Baby Zoo quilt has all baby animals and was cut from a panel. It has bows on the edges.

The Fireman Quilt was made with a large red fireman hat, and is appliqued with words that are related to firemen. There are also appliques of a dog, ladder, fire ax, and others around the edge.

The quilts are machine pieced, fused and machine applique, and machine quilted. They all have tags that say “Because I love you” near the binding.

Rakkasan Quilt

Marsha Toshner is asking for everyone to be on the look out for her Rakkasan Quilt. It was last seen December 2010 at the Rakkasan Headquarters at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. It had been on display until their museum was finished. The quilt was supposed to go into the museum to be seen by the public and future generations.

This original quilt is 102″ by 102″. The background is white with appliqued blocks. The border is a braid of blue, red, yellow, and black. Found: Green, pink and white chintz quilt

Found and searching for proper owner.

Sherry is looking for the owner of a green, pink, and white chintz quilt. On November 19, 2012 she saw a cardboard box labeled “blankets and sheets” on Horseblock Road toward Montauk Highway in Bellport, New York. It appreared to have fallen from a vehicle. The box was lying on the side of the road, opened from the fall, and the quilt was a few feet from the box on the grass. All the linens were recently laundered and smelled very clean and fresh. She checked the quilt for a label, but it doesn’t have one. The 50″ by 82″ quilt appears to be brand new with several unclipped quilting threads still on the quilt. It is machine pieced and appears to be professionally machine quilted.

Sherry writes, “I would really like to get this quilt back to its owner-who may or may not have been a victim of Superstorm Sandy. Someone put a lot of love into this quilt and it needs to go back to the person who lost it.”

If you are searching for a missing quilt, please contact Sherry at sar279@verizon.net and give her identifying information to confirm ownership.

Chabad Chanukah

In December 2008, Kathy, an Alaskan Quilter, designed and stitched this Chabad Chanukah quilt for her grandson’s Hebrew School classroom at the Downtown Jewish Center Chabad School for Children in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This quilt was stolen from the old temporary Hebrew School classroom in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

This original quilt is about 60″ by 60″. She used jewel tones of blue, purple, green, teal, turquoise, and gold. The Jewish theme Chanukah quilt has rows of stars framing a large, centered Menorah with dreidels. Kathy used gold threads and Swarovski crystals on the flames and very detailed stitching throughout. There is very fine ribbon outlining each star in a contrasting color. The backing is blue with gold dreidels. The quilt is machine pieced, fused and machine applique, and machine quilted. There is a label fused and stitched to a back corner.

If you find this quilt, please contact Kathy.

Recovered! Yellow and Orange Lone Star Quilt Top

Heidi Munroe last saw her Lone Star quilt top in January 2011. It was taken from her car in Ayer, Massachusetts. It was made in 1938 as a wedding present for her parents, but it had never been finished. Heidi saved it all these years, and she was taking it to show someone, when it was apparently stolen from the car.

In November 2012, Heidi’s quilt was recovered!!! She writes, “Amazing - thank you so much - have it back in my possession and will never let it go!”

The main colors of this quilt is yellow, orange, cream, and white. The design features one big Lone Star. There is no design on the fabric. The outer border may have been made from a sheet.

Hope Lives Here

Lynette Squillante would like the quilt she made for her grandmother to be returned to her. She mailed it from San Juan Capistrano, California to the nursing home where her grandmother used to live. They said they mailed it back to the address on the package, but Lynette never received it, and it never showed up at the post office.

This original quilt is 20″ by 30″. The main colors are greens, white, aqua/turquoise. It is an original design based on her grandmother’s favorite flower, gardenias. Lynette designed and created the applique pattern and even the font for the lettering. She hand-dyed and painted the background fabric, the turquoise fabric, and the leaves. The leaves, lettering, and flower appliques are all made from silk. It is free-motion quilted with various rayon threads. It has Lynette’s signature applique with a written date on the back, bottom left. The quilt was fused applique, machine applique, and machine quilted in 2010.

If you find this quilt, please contact Lynette at lynette.sq@gmail.com.
