Mar 11 2009

Red and White Irish Chain by Stacey Barrington

Stacey Barrington and Doris Goins were searching for this missing Red and White Irish Chain Quilt. It was last seen on January 30, 2009 when Dorris dropped it off at the shipping company office in Kendallville, Indiana. It was being shipped to San Marcos, Texas. This quilt was being sent back to the owner after Doris completed the machine quilting.

On March 11, after nearly six weeks, the shipping company finally safely delivered this quilt to the sender!

The quilt is 92″ by 100″. It is machine pieced and machine quilted. Feather wreaths are quilted in the plain areas and continuous curves are quilted in the chain area.

Pennsylvania Hex

Mar 19 2002

Pennsylvania Hex by Brenda Kalata

Can you help Brenda Kalata recover a missing Pennsylvania Hex quilt which she gave to her daughter, Beth Ethridge? The quilt was last seen during the summer of 1994 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was stolen from a parked car. Brenda writes, “While I realize that this quilt has probably been sold and resold many times - in tatters by now - I’d like to know if anyone has seen it since its disappearance.”

This quilt was made from a pattern published in the April 1965 issue of Woman’s Day. The pattern was recreated from a pre-1900 quilt that is owned by the Historical Society of York County, York, Pennsylvania. The quilt top was hand pieced by E. McCarter (who was a New York Bradway costume designer) and was hand quilted by Brenda. The quilt top was given to Brenda on July 8, 1984 and Brenda gave it to her middle daughter as a wedding gift. The top was made around 1966 to 1970 and it was quilted in 1990. It is 72″ by 100″. The main colors are red, yellow and green on a bright white background. The cotton red and yellow, six-pointed blocks are surrounded by pieced diamonds to create hexagons. Traditional “feathered circles” or “feather wreaths” are quilted in every white hexagon.

If you can help, please contact Brenda at [email protected].
