Handmade Hooked Rug

Oct 30 2006

Heather Frye is desperately hoping to recover her great-grandmother’s handmade hooked rug. It was being sent via a shipping company, but was never delivered. There is a tracer on it, but the investigation is closing soon.

The rug is about 4 feet by 5 feet. It is rose pink with a variety of flowers in an oval pattern with more flowers in the center. The pile is looped, not cut. It is made of hand-dyed, wool fabric strips. It is an award-winning, original design which includes lilies, roses, and even apple flowers. Her name, Nora McArdle, is hooked into the rug with green yarn.

If you can help Heather in any way, please contact her through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.

Rose Ellen Smith Guard Quilts

Sep 23 2005

Sharon L. Northrop is hoping to recover family quilts made by her grandmother, Rose Ellen Smith Guard. Rose Ellen made several traditional quilts, one of which was a Dresden plate design. They would have been made between 1920 and 1955. Sharon hopes that she put her name on them.

These quilts were last seen in Rupert, Idaho. Rose Ellen died in 1955. It is believed that her daughter, Deloris, inherited the quilts which were possibly passed on to her daughter. The family believes the quilts may have then been sold locally in Rupert, Idaho.

If you find any quilts with Rose Ellen Smith Guard’s name, please contact Sharon at [email protected].

During 2001 Rose Bishop made this full-sized quilt for her daughter’s graduation. It is a double sided quilt. It is hand appliqued, machine pieced and machine quilted. The quilt was last seen August 17, 2003.

On February 7, 2005, Rose received the exciting news that Karen’s suitcase containing the quilt was found and it would be home soon!

The first side (shown above) is a variation of the Ohio Star block with three pictures of Karen: one as a baby, one in first grade and one at her graduation. The main colors on this side range from white to deep maroon.

The second side (shown to the left) is a square patch design that Karen designed. The main colors are pink, red, and orange variations with bears having tea appliqued on top. One bear is a Paddington bear. Prints include fabrics with checkers, hearts, stars, and butterflies. After the picture was taken, Rose appliqued a big 12-15″, smiling, furry bear in the lower corner.
