State Flowers of Arizona and New York

Jul 04 2011

State Flowers of Arizona and New York by Lori BiehleLori Biehle is hoping someone knows where this special quilt is. She made it for her grandmother, Greeta Pelton, on her 90th birthday in 2004. At the time, she and her two children flew to Arizona for her party. She chose to depict the state flowers of New York and Arizona since that is where her grandmother spent her adult life. When she moved into Faithful Heart Assisted Living in Tucson, Arizona, Lori assumed the quilt went with her.

The quilt is about 40″ by 60″. The main colors are cream, black, yellow, and red. It includes a fabric with red roses on a yellow/cream background and another fabric with yellow saguaro cactus flowers with some black. The pattern is a “camp” pattern. It is machine quilted on a home sewing machine. It has a label on the back that says it is a 90th birthday gift for Greeta Pelton from Lori, Jim, Julia, and sam.

When her grandmother passed away in December 2010 at age 97, some of her things may have ended up in Herndon, Virginia with family. Lori was told that most of her things were donated to charity. However, Lori is hoping she can recover this quilt. If it was donated to Goodwill or Salvation Army, she is happy to repay the purchaser plus shipping, and make a matching donation to the organization.

If you find this quilt, please contact Lori at [email protected].

Iris Medallion by Billie McKouen

Iris Medallion by Billie McKouen

Billie McKouen is hoping to find a quilt that she made for Tom and Sara McKouen for their wedding. It was last seen in 2004 at a storage facility in Burlington, Vermont. A police report was file when it was discovered missing.

This queen size quilt was made with purple, green, and cream fabrics in 2001. It is machine pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted. Billie used a commercial pattern by Mary Gomez found in “50 Country Quilting Projects,” but Billie altered the central blocks to trees and quilted names and dates. This quilt does not have a label, but the center quilting would identify Tom, Sara, Bria Rose and Noah and their birth and wedding dates.

If you find this quilt, please contact Billie through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.

Ohio Rose

Aug 19 2007

Lisa Barker hopes to recover an Ohio Rose quilt made by Margaret Thompson Hays and Olive Belle Hays Haas, Lisa’s great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. In the early 1970′s, her grandmother was in need of money so she advertised the quilt in the paper. A decorator from Columbus, Georgia drove to Macon and persuaded Lisa’s grandmother to sell it at a much reduced price from what she was asking because it had some spots on it.

The quilt was made for a single bed. The main colors are red and white. It is hand pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted. Lisa estimates it was made about 1900.

Lisa would like to find this quilt and she is willing to pay a reasonable price for it. If you’ve seen this quilt, please contact her through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.

Recovered! Margaret Rebecca Singleton Rose Brooksher Quilt

Jun 02 2007

Brooksher Quilt

Margaret Brewer was searching for a quilt made by her great-grandmother, Margaret Rebecca Singleton Rose Brooksher. The last known owner was Ethel Foster of Muskogee, Oklahoma who was a granddaughter. Ethel had been persuaded to sell the quilt to a man who claimed he was going to establish a quilt museum near Branson, Missouri in Eureka Springs. Margaret had never found this museum. A picture of the quilt is on page 65 of the book, “Oklahoma Heritage Quilts,” by the Oklahoma Quilt Heritage Project.

In May 2007, Margaret wrote, “I am very happy to report that a Quilt Museum in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, has finally been opened, and Margaret Rebecca’s quilt is there now. So I guess that that is the best place for the quilt to be, since it had its place in civil war history.” Originally posted January 22, 2004. Updated June 2, 2007.
