Flower Quilts

Aug 04 2006

Carrie Trettel Zizza hopes to recover three flower quilts made by her grandmother, Olive Trettel. She believes they were appliqued with tulips or flowers on a white background, and they were probably hand quilted. The quilts were probably made in the late 1960′s or early 70′s. These quilts were last seen on Clopper Avenue in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Her parents had been going through a messy divorce, so she didn’t have much contact with her grandmother after they divorced. After her grandparents died, she was told that her grandparent’s friend named Vi with an Italian-sounding last name took the quilts. Vi’s husband had bought the house they were living in. Carrie believes their children may still have the quilts.

When Carrie was only ten, her grandmother had told her and her two sisters that the quilts were for them after she died. From what Carrie can remember, the one for her was a tulip or flower applique. One of the others may have been a whole cloth quilt.

If you know anything about these quilts, please contact Carrie through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.

Pansy Print Quilt

Aug 04 2006

Cindy Welch owns Journey Quilt Company, a quilt shop in Nunda, New York. One of her customers is searching for a quilt top that she made for her daughter in the military. It is suspected that it was stolen from her home by a health aid. The quilt disappeared from her residence somewhere between April and July 2005. The quilt top had been displayed on her bed and was not yet quilted.

The quilt’s main fabric is a cream pansy print. The fabric is possibly made by Cranston Mills and is from the 1980′s or 90′s. It is a full-sized quilt.

If you have seen a quilt that fits this description, please contact Cindy through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.

Butterfly Daisy Quilt

Jun 13 2006

Butterfly Daisy Quilt

Earlier this year Julie Ray finished a quilt for her new baby granddaughter. It was last seen when it was taken from the pusher (stroller) while her daughter was nursing the baby in a shop called Baby On A Budget in Port Kennedy, Western Australia.

The quilt was made from a pattern in Patchwork and Stitching magazine, Volume 5, No. 8, designed by Kerry Thomas. It measures about 77 cm x 116 cm. Julie made the center block a daisy when she didn’t have enough fabric for the seventh butterfly. The quilt has a separate label sewn to the back of the quilt in the lower right corner. It was written using permanent pen and reads, “Made with love for Carly Jade by Grandma (Julie Ray) 2006.”

Apr 08 2006

On Thursday, March 2, 2006 Beryl Mayger lost the quilt top she had been working on for over a year. It may have been taken from a basket in the Watsonia Library in Victoria, Australia, or it may have been dropped in the library parking lot.

On the morning of March 28 Beryl opened her front door and there was her quilt top! Someone had mysteriously left it on her doorstep. What a wonderful gift!

This quilt was made from the “Primarily Patchwork” pattern. It is approximately 85″ by 95″. It has a beige background with tiny red cherries on it. There is an appliqued central bouquet that is surrounded by an oval of appliqued flowers, leaves and pomegranets, and there is a bunch of flowers at each corner. It is made up of nine panels joined together.

The search is on for a quilt lost by a shipping company in November 2003. It was being sent to Nice, France but it never arrived.

This quilt is an improvisational design using fabrics from her niece’s childhood dresses. It is smaller than twin size, but larger than crib size. It was designed to be a sofa throw. It has large and small flower prints, some vintage, some plaid, and one blue and white stripe. The colors are mostly pinks, reds and white. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. The name “Judith” is embroidered in blue. On the back should be a label that says something like “By Babs 2003.”
