Denim Log Cabin

May 09 2006

Denim Log Cabin by Naomi Buschhaus

Sometime during April 2006, this Denim Log Cabin quilt disappeared from Angela Fields’s belongings near Pittsburg, California. It was made by Naomi Buschhaus in 2004 out of recycled denim jeans. The quilt consists of twelve squares, about 14″ each, so the finished size of the quilt is about 42″ by 56″. The quilt is backed with two light blue bath towels (see picture below) and it has no batting. Each block was machine quilted with a spiral pattern. There was a separate thirteenth block which was made into a pillow slip and backed with two layers of terrycloth.

Naomi handstitched her initials, NB, in her signature “butterfly” style along with “CA 2004″ in silver thread on the bottom right hand corner of the quilt top.

Haunted House Quilt

Mar 24 2006

Haunted House Quilt by Kristin Miller

Kristin Miller created this original Haunted House Quilt in 2006. It was last seen on February 28, 2006 when she sent it from Gabriola, British Columbia, Canada to her customer in Parsippany, New Jersey. The quilt was stolen on March 3, 2006 when the shipping company left it on the recipient’s apartment doorstep.

The quilt is 75″ by 95″. It features a quilted and appliqued Victorian house, quite spooky looking, with a stormy night sky with bats flying. There is a dark garden and graveyard in the foreground with a fence and a falling-apart gate. A red-haired woman stands in the open doorway. This one-of-a-kind quilt is very detailed and features hand-dyed fabrics and lavish stitchery and quilting. The main colors are greys, blues, and dark colors. A label is firmly hand stitched to the bottom corner of the back of the quilt with Kristin’s name and contact information.

This quilt is 60″ square. The main colors are pale blue, pink, yellow, violet, and green hand-dyed fabric. The names of all the participating quilters are embroidered on the label which is hand appliqued to the bottom left of the backing. The fabric was purchased from donations and made with love by staff members during their lunch breaks. A police report was filed.

Blue Ash

Blue Ash by Lorraine Roy

Blue Ash by Lorraine Roy

“Blue Ash” is an original quilt by Lorraine Roy. This quilt was last seen on January 9, 2004 at Fanshawe College Math Learning Centre, London, Ontario, Canada. It was stolen while hanging in a locked room sometime during the weekend of January 10-11.

This quilt is 41″ by 22″. The main colors are blue and dark red with some gold. The fabric was made entirely of small fabric cuttings, collaged, and stitched under transparent netting. It has a machine embroidered label on the sleeve on the back. It also has Lorraine’s machine embroidered signature (LRoy) at the bottom and the Latin name of Blue Ash, Fraxinus quadrangulata.

Since the theft, Lorraine has made a second quilt very similar to this one. The new version, not to be confused with the stolen quilt, is in the collection of a lawyer in Toronto, Ontario.

Burgundy Quilt

Dec 20 2005

Deborah Salguero is hoping to recover a quilt she made for her daughter Cristina. It was last seen in August 2005 at a boarding school in Massachusetts. It was taken from her daughter by the school nurse for safe keeping. It is possible it was placed in a black trash bag and accidentally thrown away.

The twin size quilt is mainly burgundy with trees. It has light green with chickens and dogs, a beige check and a dark blue check. It also has a fabric with sunflowers. There is a label that says, “Dear Cristina, with all my love, Mama, June 2005.” This was embroidered directly onto the quilt in the top left hand corner. Deborah used a commercial pattern from “The Block Library”, page 88.

Please contact Deborah through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page if you find a quilt that fits this description.
