Fall Leaves Quilt

Apr 05 2011

Jackie Briggs wonders if anyone found her long-lost quilt. It was made by her grandmother or possibly great-grandmother. She last saw it in 1981 in Colorado. It was left in a chest which her father had made. There was a burlap covering, and other momentos were in the chest including items from her wedding and an old camera. It was left behind at a friend’s house when she had to move, but they do not remember what happened to the chest.

The quilt is tan on one side and brown on the other. Autumn-colored leaves are on the tan side. It is approximately full-size. It is hand stitched with a diamond pattern and the year 1937 or possibly 1837 is embroidered in a corner with the name. It had won a blue ribbon in the LA Fair.

If you found this quilt, please contact Jackie at [email protected].

Wedding Ring Quilt

Mar 30 2011

Bernita Parker hopes someone has found her missing quilt. It is a wedding ring quilt, larger than full size, but not as big as queen size. It is off-white with some red and some shirt fabrics. The quilt was made in 1955 by her grandmother, Sallie Mae Lewis. Her grandmother’s name is written in a upper corner. Her grandmother gave it to her for her twelfth birthday. The last time Bernita saw the quilt was when she moved from Eminence, Missouri to Effingham, Illinois in 1998. She thinks it may have blown out of the truck during the move.

If you’ve found this quilt, please contact Bernita at [email protected].

Heidi saved it all these years, and she was taking it to show someone, when it was apparently stolen from the car.

The main colors of this quilt is yellow, orange, cream, and white. The design features one big Lone Star. There is no design on the fabric. The outer border may have been made from a sheet.

If you have seen a quilt top that fits this description, please contact Heidi at [email protected].

Home Sweet Home

Mar 18 2011

Home Sweet Home by Dorothy RaglandDorothy Ragland is wondering where her quilt is. She entered her 30″ by 30″ quilt into the Keepsake Quilting’s “Home Sweet Home” contest in 2008. It was supposed to be returned to her in October, but she never received it. They kept saying they were late, but would send it soon. In February 2009, they said they returned it the previous October but couldn’t provide a tracking number.

Dorothy sent off her quilt in March 2008, and then saw a picture on their website, but never saw it again. The quilt features a home with a red roof, a floral wall, and a tan floor. It said “Welcome” on the eave, a white picket fence in front, and a vine with flowers up the side. Inside there were appliques of a baby buggy, a Bible, a teapot, a heart, and a sewing machine with embellishments of a needle, scissors, and buttons that look like spools of thread. There is also a mini quilt being quilted on the machine. The quilt was labeled with a piece of paper pinned to the back. The label had her name, the date, and the words “Home Sweet Home.” This quilt is machine pieced, machine appliqued, and machine quilted.

If you’ve seen a quilt that fits this description, please contact Dorothy at [email protected].

Quilts for Japan

Mar 17 2011

Quilts for JapanAre any quilters out there looking for a way to donate quilts to the victims of the recent tragedy in Japan? If so, Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine is collecting quilts. They need the quilts before April 30, 2011. Go to http://networkedblogs.com/fA9SP to find out the details.

Luana Rubin of Equilter is also coordinating efforts with Missions of Love. On her March 15, 2011 blog entry, she has details on how you can donate through them.

My brother has lived in Ichihara for nearly 30 years. His wife is Japanese and her two sisters and their families live near Sendai. If you have a few hours to spare, consider making a small, personal-size quilt suitable for a child or small adult.

Doodle’s Quilt

Feb 24 2011

Doodle's Quilt by Dorothy Viola Holobaugh

Doodle's Quilt by Dorothy Viola Holobaugh

Judith is searching for a quilt that was made by her mother, Dorothy Viola Holobaugh. It was made for Judith’s daughter, Christine Viola (Doodle) Cowan Cary. The quilt was last seen in Rancho Santa Fe, California. It became missing during a divorce, and it may have been given away or sold, along with another quilt and an afghan made by Dorothy.

This is an original design. It is twin size. It is yellow with white and the border is red. The quilt features a little girl doing different dances. Each applique is unique, It was created in 1976 by a grandmother for the granddaughter that was named for her. Judith doesn’t rememeber exactly what is on the label, but it may include the words “Doodle” or “Christy”, “Dancing Girls”, Dorothy’s name, and the year.

Judith writes, “This is an original quilt made especially for my daughter the same year my mother made quilts for three other granddaughters - all designed around the girls’ interests. It is breaking my heart that this quilt is missing…as well as the other one and a hand crocheted afghan mom made for Doodle. The quilts and afghan may be in Mexico as the ex was in the habit of giving his handy man stuff to take home to Mexico.”

If you find this quilt, please contact Judith at [email protected].

Recovered! Let the Sunshine In

Feb 22 2011

Let the Sunshine In by Anna Hergert

Let the Sunshine In by Anna Hergert

On December 15, 2010, Anna Hergert mailed her quilt, “Let the Sunshine In,” from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada to Barrington, Rhode Island. She was donating the quilt to the UN Quilt Challenge for 2011. Sadly, this quilt didn’t arrive as expected.

On February 22, 2011 we received the wonderful news that this quilt has finally been delivered! The recipient wrote, “It is ironic since my husband ordered the reproduction of your quilt just yesterday! I am so glad since it is amazing beautiful in real life. I jumped for joy and I hope you will too!”

The quilt is 30″ high by 20″ wide. The main colors are blue, ochre, and deep purple. The quilt depicts a scene of Burkha-clad women. She appliqued sheer and opaque polyester fabrics over a hand painted canvas background. The quilt has a label hand stitched to the lower back corner which has the name of the quilt, Anna’s name and website URL.

Jana’s Special

Jan 29 2011

Shara-Dee Seiter hopes some one has found a pink and white, twin size quilt that she made for Jana. She last saw it in Phoenix, Arizona. It was possibly lost during her family’s move to Tempe, Arizona in 1982 or maybe shortly after that.

The quilt was made with pink gingham and there was hand quilting across the top that said something like, “Sleep tight.” Every square on the quilt depicted something of Jana’s young life: her family, school, church, etc. Every square was hand appliqued and embroidered. It may have also had Jana’s name on the quilt.

Shara-Dee writes, “It’d be a miracle to recover this long-lost treasure, but there’s always hope :)” If you’ve seen this quilt, please contact Shara-Dee at [email protected].

Pieces of History

Jan 28 2011

Pieces of History

Pieces of History

Niki Nelson hopes someone has found her husband’s quilt, Pieces of History, which was stolen when their home was burglarized. They believe it was likely used to bundle up their computers and jewelry. The quilt was last seen on November 8, 2010 in Auburn, Washington.

The quilt blocks made by Niki’s late mother-in-law. Each block is made up of nine squares. The blocks were found when her family was cleaning out her house. In 2008, two very similar twin-size quilts were made for the two brothers using those blocks. The picture is of the sister quilt, not the one that is missing. The squares will be slightly different on the missing quilt and the trim fabric is a bit darker and has very small red flowers. All of the squares are fabrics from the 1960′s and 1970′s. The squares were scraps of fabrics used to make curtains, skirts, blouses, boy’s shirts, pajamas, etc.

If you find this quilt, please contact Niki at [email protected].
