My Brother Charlie

Sep 11 2009

My Brother Charlie by Charlotte Lorenzo

Charlotte Lorenzo needs help locating a quilt she made at the Asilomar Empty Spools Seminar in Pacific Grove, California. It was taken from a meeting room on September 1, 2009. Charlotte was taking a Mary Lou Weidman workshop.

This quilt is approximately 65" by 58". It features a large pink polka-dot dinosaur with a boy reading a book on his back. (The photo to the left shows this quilt as it was being made before the boy was added.) There is also a palm tree with bright colored fronds on it. The background is lime green and about the top one-third is a blue and white plaid. The border is lime green, turquoise, hot pink and royal blue using Mary Lou’s "Hoochy Mama" blocks. The background and border were made first and then the story part of the quilt was made. This quilt is machine pieced and fused applique. It is still under construction, so it does not have a label.

Please contact Charlotte at [email protected] if you find this quilt.

Circus Quilt

Aug 31 2009

Kimberly hopes someone found her Circus Quilt and has been keeping it safe for her. Her mother left it at Miss June’s Preschool in Lakeland, Florida in 1972. The child-size quilt was made by her grandmother. It has a circus theme with a clown holding balloons, a lion in a cage, an elephant, a seal on a ball, a horse, etc. It was hand pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted. Kimberly believes it was made sometime between 1967 and 1970. She believes it may have been made from a commercial pattern, but she doesn’t know which one.

If you have seen a quilt that fits this description, please contact Kimberly at [email protected].

Bird Quilts

Aug 06 2009

On Friday, July 31, 2009 three quilts were stolen from a mini-exhibit at the Berea Arts Council Gallery in Berea, Kentucky.

The Cardinal quilt was made by Dianne Stinebrickner. This original design is approximately 15" by 17". The main colors are red and black. It is machine pieced, machine appliqued, and machine quilted. Pat Cheshire Jennings made "Bluebird Branch." This quilt is 9-3/4" by 10-1/4". The background fabric is hand dyed and quilted to further enhance the background. The bird is intensely thread painted. The branch includes silk leaves that have been sewn and then quilted down. This quilt has a label on the back bottom corner with Pat’s name and the name of the quilt.

Pat Cheshire Jennings also made "Chickadee’s Visit." This quilt is 10-1/4" by 12". The chickadee on this quilt is also densely thread painted. It also has a label sewn to the lower back corner.

Gators by Helen Lund

Helen Lund is hoping to find the Gator Quilt she made for Heather Batson. Heather lives in Orlando, Florida and had just moved into a duplex about one month previously. Andrea’s Yellowbrick Road

Aug 06 2009

Andrea's Yellowbrick Road by Sandra Cooper

In 2004 Sandie Cooper made this quilt for her granddaughter, Andrea Gordon-Cooper, who lived with her mother in Senatobia, Mississippi. Sandie mailed it to Andrea’s mother, Terrie Gordon, in time for Christmas 2004. Terrie mentioned receiving the quilt along with some toys. At the time Terrie was living with a boyfriend and, when she moved out, she did not take the quilt with her.

This quilt is lap size to crib size, made from a commercial pattern called Yellowbrick Road. It is machine pieced and machine quilted by Anna Cheever of Wichita, Kansas. Andrea’s father, Ryan, helped pick out the colors and the placement of the blocks. He added the red felt hearts on the front of the quilt.

Andrea now lives with Sandie, and they would love to locate the quilt for sentimental reasons. If you can help, please contact Sandie through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.
