Recovered! Crazy in the Garden

Apr 30 2012

Allison Aller was hoping that someone had found her missing quilt called “Crazy in the Garden.” It was last seen on May 14, 2011 at Quilt Market in Salt Lake City. It was in the C & T Publishers booth, but it never arrived back at C & T’s headquarters after the market was over.

This original quilt is 46″ by 46″. This heavily embellished quilt features garden colors; blue, green, pink, orange, and purple dominate. The quilt is covered with three dimensional flowers. It also has appliqued, machine embroidered hummingbirds and butterflies. There are several beaded butterflies as well. This is the quilt that is on the cover of her book, “Allie Aller’s Crazy Quilting: Modern Piecing and Embellishing Techniques for Joyful Stitching.” The quilt also won a second place in the Embellished Quilts category at the IQA Houston Show in 2010.

On April 30, 2012, C&T joyfully announced that all four missing quilts have been found!!! They had been carefully packed away in a mistakenly labeled, long-term storage box.

Patsy Thompson Quilts

Mar 03 2012

Please be on the look out for these two stolen original quilts by Patsy Thompson. They were last seen in Holland, Ohio when Patsy placed them in her suitcase. She spent the night at a hotel in Corbin, Kentucky on February 29, 2012. Someone broke into her car and stole most of what was in the car, including the suitcase containing these quilts. A police report has been finled.

This original tulip quilt was partially quilted and not yet bound. The blocks are 22″ square and set on point. The overall size of the quilt is about 48-50″. The block background is dark blue, the feather appliques are green, and the tuplis are reds, pinks, and oranges. The setting triangle blocks are variegated green and blue. The appliques were cut from Appli-K-Kutz dies. This quilt is machine pieced, fused applique, machine applique, and machine quilted. It was made in 2011-2012. It does not have a label because it had not yet been completed.

This green flower quilt top is about 65″ by 62″. It has a hand-dyed green and rust, cotton sateen background fabric. The many flowers are yellows, blues, purples, red, and the swirls and leaves are a variety of greens. The flower shapes were cut from many different Sizzix die shapes and Appli-K-Kutz die shapes, and then arranged to form flower shapes. There is extensive trapunto work and free motion machine embroidery all over the top. This quilt top is fused and machine appliqued. It also has free motion machine embroidery on the applique shapes and the grapevine curly-cues coming off the swirl stems. This quilt top was also made during 2011-2012. The photo does not show the amethyst border that was attached later. All of the flowers also now have embroidery and/or trapunto.

You can read more about this situation on Patsy’s March 3, 2012 blog at http://www.patsythompsondesigns.com/.

If you can help with the recovery of these quilts, please contact Patsy at [email protected].

Judith writes, “This is an original quilt made especially for my daughter the same year my mother made quilts for three other granddaughters - all designed around the girls’ interests. Jana’s Special

Jan 29 2011

Shara-Dee Seiter hopes some one has found a pink and white, twin size quilt that she made for Jana. She last saw it in Phoenix, Arizona. It was possibly lost during her family’s move to Tempe, Arizona in 1982 or maybe shortly after that.

The quilt was made with pink gingham and there was hand quilting across the top that said something like, “Sleep tight.” Every square on the quilt depicted something of Jana’s young life: her family, school, church, etc. Every square was hand appliqued and embroidered. It may have also had Jana’s name on the quilt.

Shara-Dee writes, “It’d be a miracle to recover this long-lost treasure, but there’s always hope :)” If you’ve seen this quilt, please contact Shara-Dee at [email protected].
