Peter’s Bug Collection

Apr 29 2012

Patty Macy is searching for a quilt that she made for her grandson, Peter Macy. This quilt was last seen in 2009 in Silverdale, Washington. The Navy family was moved to Italy for assignment. The quilt didn’t make it. It may have been packed in the household goods that were stored in Washington, but when the family returned to Silverdale and opened the boxes, they still couldn’t find the quilt.

The quilt is about 50″ by 59″ The main colors are blues, reds, yellows, greens, browns, black and white. Patty used the bottle quilt pattern with various bug fabrics, so it looks like bottles of bugs sitting on shelves. The quilt is machine pieced and machine quilted. It is custom quilted with bug shapes and bug names in the black open spaces around the bottles. The label reads something like: “Peter’s Bug Collection, created with love by Patty Macy 2005.” It is sewn on a back corner.

Patty has made several similar quilts, but each one is a little different. One is hanging in a grandson’s home in Virginia. Others were donated to CASA kids and to A Partner’s In Care Fundraiser, El Dorado County, California.

If you’ve seen Peter’s quilt, please contact Patty at [email protected].

Recovered! One Female at a Time

Mar 28 2012

B.J. Reid’s quilt, “One Female at a Time” was last seen in April 2011 in Geneva, Switzerland. The quilt had been part of the show, “Women - Peace and Security.” It was displayed at the United Nations in Geneva. The quilt became missing between the date when the show ended and the day it was to have been shipped back to the USA.

This quilt has now been located! However, four others from the same exhibit are still currently missing. One of those still missing is seen on the Quilt for Change website.

This original quilt is 20″ wide and 30″ high. There are many rectangles of color hand painted on a textured cream-colored background. There is a line sketch of a portrait of a woman. Many words (such as love and equality) were written via machine quilting. A collection of yarns are couched on the edge and run through a bead at the lower right corner and then form a tassel. The quilt is labeled on the back.

Hexagon Quilt

Mar 15 2012

Elizabeth Janes is searching for her hexagon patchwork quilt. It was made by her father. It is a large, single bed quilt. It is hand-sewn. It features mixed colors with a border pattern of black hexagons around the edge. It is at least fifteen years old, but the precise year it was made is unknown.

Elizabeth’s sister was sent this quilt to her from Somerset to Hertfordshire in 2010, but it got lost in the mail and never arrived.

This was the last quilt Elizabeth’s father ever made, so it is naturally of great sentimental value to their family. If you’ve found this quilt, please contact Elizabeth at [email protected].

Recovered! Red Patches Quilt

May 01 2010

The baby quilt shown above was made by Rita Hodge in 2010. She sold it on Etsy and it was sent by Registered Mail from Melbourne, Australia to Milan, Itay on February 15. She was able to track it all the way to Italy, but it never reached its final destination.

On May 1, 2010, Rita reported that the quilt has been recovered! Apparently it spent two months sitting in an Italian Post Office, unclaimed by the recipient. Exactly two months after its arrival in Italy, it was returned to sender, and it arrived on Rita’s veranda in Australia just six days later. The parcel was intact and unopened. Rita says, “It has restored my faith in our postal services!”

This quilt is an original design. It features a wide variety of mainly red and white cotton and linen fabrics. Many of the fabrics are screen printed by well-known Australian designers so they are unique and easily recognizable. It is machine quilted with vertical lines approximately 1-1/2-inches apart, and it is bound with a red and white striped fabric. The back of the quilt features a red and orange single repeat panel by Australian designer Saffron Craig. The fabric features two owls sitting in a tree. The quilt was labeled with a small label sewn into the binding in the bottom left corner on the back of the quilt. The label reads, “Red Pepper Quilts.”

The main colors are black, gold, and various mauves, along with various pictures of pansies. It is machine pieced and machine quilted, and it was just finished in May 2009. African Circles

Nov 22 2007

Quilt Fabrics

Penelope Feeney is hoping to recover a quilt she made called “African Circles.” It was last seen in 2004 in Timsbury near Bath in Somerset, England, or possibly London. It was lost during one of several house moves over the past few years. She thought it was in storage, but now that she’s gone through everything she’s realized it’s missing. It was probably in a clear plastic storage bag along with an antique Durham quilt.

“African Circles” is a large 9 ft by 9 ft quilt. It has a dark brown background with interlocking rings of green and yellow. Each ring frames a square of African themed fabric. The intersections are done in plain black and leopard print. The fabrics used are shown to the left. The quilt is machine pieced, machine appliqued, and machine quilted.

If you have found this quilt, please contact Penelope through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.

Squares Etc.

Sep 24 2006

Squares, Etc. by Charlotte Soares

Charlotte Soares is hoping to recover a quilt that she made for her son. Sometime during the summer of 2006, he threw it in the rubbish. The rubbish goes to Brentford depot (United Kingdom) where it is compressed and sent by rail to Sutton Courtenay landfill in Oxfordshire. Her only hope is that a refuse worker en route saw it and retrieved it.

The single-size quilt is made of random multicoloured rectangles using stripes, checks, and plain fabrics. The backing is green flannel and the label says as far as she can remember “Squares Etc, To Robert , all my love, Mum.”

If you find this quilt, please contact Charlotte through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.
