Dee Gordon reports that the quilt she made for her daughter, Tanya, is missing. It was stolen during a burglary at her daughter’s flat in Waterview, West Auckland, New Zealand. They believe it was used to wrap various electronic goods that were stolen from her flatmates including a large TV, laptop, and sound equipment. It was last seen mid 2009.
This quilt was made for Tanya’s 18th birthday. It is approximately 120 by 180 cm (47 by 70 inches). The main colors are plain lime, a navy, a navy batik, and one fabric that was a wash of lime and navy. It is made using a traditional Snail’s Trail block. This quilt is machine pieced and hand quilted echoing the snail’s trail. On the two long sides, “paua” or New Zealand abalone shells have been hand painted and embroidered. There is a dedication on one side that says “For Tanya, I love you more…” or words to that effect.
