Please be on the look out for two of Sarah Ann Smith’s quilts. They were last seen in early October 2011. They were part of a special exhibit, Then and Now, which was curated by Anne Copeland. They were being returned to Sarah Ann when they came up missing. It is not clear if they were lost en route to either Office Depot or the Post Office in Lomita, California. Two other quilts by Wendy L. Starn became missing at the same time.
“Fields of Gold” is 18″ wide by 20.5″ high. The main colors in this original design are green, gold, and some blue. The background is hand-dyed fabric by Lisa Walton of Australia. It is quilted with a wheat stalk motif in the foreground. The design is fused applique. It is labeled with the name of the quilt, Sarah’s name and her old address in Camden, Maine, and her current email and website addresses. This quilt won second place in Art Quilts-Miniature at IQA Houston in 2009, and it was featured as the September quilt in Award Winning Quilts.
“Dogwood::Dawn” is also an original quilt. It is 33″ wide by 27″ high. The main colors are soft pink, gray, blue, green, with brown for the tree trunks and earth. Sarah Ann used sheer fabrics fused as mist, angelina, and silk fibers. It is machine pieced, fused applique, and intensely machine quilted.
Please contact Sarah Ann Smith at [email protected] if you have any information on either of these quilts.
