Why-War?
In 2001 Monica White made a 45" by 45" wall quilt, "Why-War?," for her son Micah. It is a crazy quilt with symbols of war and peace, the Twin Towers, and children. It uses a variety of war fabrics including prints with tanks, peace symbols, and airplanes. It is embellished with war toys, beads and buttons and one piece that says "Why-War?" on it. The main colors are black, green, white and red. It is hand pieced and hand appliqued. The quilt has a label on the back, written with Pigma pens, that says something like, "Monica Moran White, Grand Blanc, MI, 2001" and may also include Monica's son's name, Micah White.
The quilt had been placed in a storage area in the student housing of Swarthmore College (in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania) while Micah was out of the country. It was last seen in August 2002.
Monica writes, "This is a striking, individual quilt. It has great meaning to Micah but really not to anyone else in the same way. I hope if you have seen the quilt you will return it." Please contact Monica if you have any information about this quilt. Her email is [email protected].
