Train Quilt
In 2002, Betty Moore made a Train Quilt for her grandson, John E. Moore, IV. The quilt was last seen in May 2004 when her son's house was foreclosed on. Betty doesn't know if the quilt went to a shelter, Goodwill, a pawn shop, or was given away.
John's mother started the quilt with the blue and white blocks. When he was sixteen months old, his mother passed away very suddenly. A year later Betty took the unfinished quilt top and finished it with the train theme. Betty writes, "We are very sad to lose this quilt, because it is one of the only things this little boy has left from his mother. We would love to have the quilt returned."
The quilt is machine pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted. It covers the top of a full-size bed. There are blue and white blocks in the center with large blue blocks in the corners with railroad crossing signs. The top and bottom are white with the name "John" appliqued in blue. The sides are white with a blue train and a teddy bear driver. Puffs of smoke are quilted from the train's smokestack and birds are embroidered above the train.
