Stolen Utility Trailer
During a recent move, Debbie Skaar's brother-in-law had his belongings stored in a utility trailer. The entire trailer was stolen including two original quilts.
"For Pat With Love" (top) was made for Debbie's sister-in-law, Pat, who recently passed away. This quilt has a Southwestern feeling. It was made around 2001. Pat and her husband loved visting Arizona, Utah and New Mexico in their motorhome. A few years ago, Pat was diagnosed with Parkinson's and she was no longer able to travel, so Debbie made her this quilt of skulls, cactus, armadillos, snakes and sun to remind her of it. This is a lap-size quilt, about 40" by 48". The main colors are golds, grounds, and Southwestern style fabrics. The border is "buttes" of browns and blacks. The label says, "For Pat, With Love, Debbie, Seattle, WA 2001"
"Willie," (below) featuring photo transfers, was made for Debbie's mother-in-law's funeral reception. There are black and white photos of Willie as a young woman, bowling, dancing and "acting the fool." This quilt was also made for Pat. The label says, "For Pat, my sister in love, from Debbie Skaar, Seattle, WA 2001."
About two years ago, Pat passed away and her husband packed up the quilts and their other precious possessions accumulated during 40 years of marriage and stored them in a utility trailer. It was located in Snohomish, Washington, just north of Seattle, when it and everything in it was stolen. A police report was filed, but the trailer has never been found.
Debbie writes, "Somewhere, out there, are two small quilts that hold many years full of memories and love. They aren't 'works of art' or blue ribbon winners...But these two little quilts hold within every stitch, years and years of memories and love. They helped to heal broken hearts and caught many a lonely tear."
If you can help in the recover of these quilts, please contact Debbie through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.
