Recovered After Eleven Years!
Jennie Miller of Northeast Ohio has shared the heartwarming and inspiring story of the recovery of her quilt that was missing for eleven years. This very special quilt was made for her by an aunt sometime before 1975. During Fall 1993 Jennie hung the quilt on her back porch to air it out and someone stole it.
On June 14, 2004 she went around the corner from the street where she has lived for the past thirty years. She wrote, "It was a very sunny and warm day. As I started through the intersection I saw...did I really? Could it be? No, it can't be... YES it was! I went back around the block thinking maybe for a moment I had been in a daze and had 'wished' it there. It was still there and yes it was still looking like mine."
She went home and contacted the police. A short time later the local police Lieutenant asked her if she could identify it in some way that would distinguish it from other quilts. She was able to describe six squares of wool material that had shrunk one time she washed it. About 10:30 PM on June 15 the Lieutenant came to her front door with her quilt.
"I was in shock, I was excited and of course...I cried." The people who had the quilt said they had found it in the road in front of their house.
Jennie continued, "...last night at eleven PM I felt as if a small part of me that had been gone for many many years has finally come home...I just thought that this story might in some way give a bit of encouragement to those who are missing their special something...anything."
