Nobel Eagle Memorial Quilt Project
On September 12, 2001 the Nobel Eagle Memorial Quilt Project (http://www.nobleeaglememorialquilt.homestead.com/) was born with the purpose of commemorating the victims of the September 11 tragedy. Two Arizona women, Jackie Bell and Cynthia Vige, coordinated the effort to collect quilt blocks from people worldwide. They are assembling the blocks into 12-foot panels, hoping to have one panel for each victim. Their goal is to layout the panels in New York on September 11, 2006 "so that those effected by this great tragedy will know that we will never forget."
On March 12, 2002 sixty 12-foot panels were mailed from Arizona to Virginia using the US Mail. These sixty panels never arrived and are now missing. Every panel is different. They are made up of blocks that are original designs. The main colors are typically red, white and blue. Each panel carries a victim's name made of 5-inch letters. At the bottom of each panel is a 2 foot by 5 foot panel that has signatures and hand-written messages.
12 Panels Recovered!
On December 9, 2002 twelve of the missing panels were returned! The only clue is a postmark from Houston, Texas and no return address. Forty-eight panels are still missing. Eleven of the missing quilts have Boy Scouts of America troup numbers on them and two are from Royal Ranger groups. The remaining missing quilts are from other various groups.
If you have any information about the remaining missing panels, please contact [email protected].
