Mrs. Potter's Evening Cape

An original cape by Sue Smucker has disappeared from the 2004 Machine Quilter's Showcase Quilt Show in Springfield, Illinois. The cape, "Mrs. Potter's Evening Cape", was last seen on May 6, 2004. It disappeared after the fashion show.

The floor length cape is an original design executed in black and bright "Fossil Fern" fabrics. Large sweeps of flying geese wrap around the cape, up and over one shoulder, down and across the back, and around to the front again. It also features a big sweep of multicolor chevrons. The cape is lined in bright red satin. It is machine pieced, machine appliqued and machine quilted. It also had a pewter clasp at the throat, beading, and a wide variety of threads.

Sue's name is written inside of the back of the cape. There is a muslin foundation inside between the actual cape and the red lining and her name is written on the muslin.

If you have any information about the disappearance of this cape, please contact Sue through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.
