Memory Quilt
During 2001 and 2002 Mary L. Sebben designed and constructed a memory quilt for her mother, Helen R. DeWitt. On May 12-13, 2002 this quilt was stolen out of her sister's SUV along with some other articles. The quilt was last seen in Plano, Texas. A police report was filed.
At the time of the theft, Mary's mother was going to Texas to visit many of the friends and relatives that were pictured on the quilt. Mary writes, "My mother is 74-years old and this trip may well have been her last trip to see her relatives AND get their signatures on the quilt as well."
This memory quilt is approximately 50" by 50". It is hand and machine appliqued, machine pieced and machine quilted. Mary used scraps of cream and white for the background. She included buttons and various verses in black ink. The label is a large pieced heart containing signatures of family members including her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The label was hand appliqued to the back on the right.
