The Magic of Black
This quilt, The Magic of Black, made by Helen J. Baczynski of Las Vegas, NV, was part of the 1999 Hoffman Challenge quilt collection. It was traveling with Hoffman Collection A. It was stolen from the West Sound Quilters Quilt Show on October 21, 1999.
This quilt is about 40" by 40". The floral fabric used is an Oriental inspired design with tomato red, hyacinth blue, and green leaves against a cream and white background. The quilt was done in raw-edge, reverse appliqu.
It is machine quilted as shown in the picture to the left (colors have been adjusted to show the stitching). It is quilted with red circles and filling stitches of black, blue and gold. The border is stitched with half circles in black accented with stippling. The large black background is also stipple quilted in black.
It is labeled on the back with the name of the quilt, Helens name and address on muslin which is mounted on a piece of the challenge fabric with pinked edges. The label was attached in a way that it could be removed, however.
Helen has a website displaying this quilt. If you have any information on the location of this quilt, please contact Helen at [email protected] or the quilt show chairman, Charol L. Riedel at [email protected].
