Two Quilts Lost During Move
DeAnn Lowell has reported the loss of two quilts during a move. They were last seen in February 2001 in West Hills, California. "I was going through a hurried move and hired a moving company and had friends helping me pack and haul as well." In the confusion, the two quilts came up missing.
Zacchary's Stars is a 36" by 36" quilt that DeAnn made in 1988 when her second of four sons was born. She made Colonial Star blocks with off-white backgrounds and peach or dusty blue stars. The sashing is also off-white. It was machine pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted. She had planned on giving this quilt to him when he was older and ready to move out on his own.
Valentine Quilt is an original design. Individual hearts of printed fabric are appliqued on solid-colored blocks. The quilt is about 60" by 72". The main colors are hot pink backgrounds and red and pink calico hearts. Each heart is about 6 to 8-inches. Some of the applique fabrics are vintage fabrics from dresses DeAnn's mother made for her when she was a child. Other applique fabrics are scraps from shirts DeAnn made for her sons. The back of the quilt is off-white with a tiny red and black floral design. This quilt, made in 1994, is machine pieced, machine appliqued and machine quilted.
DeAnn writes, "Although my two missing quilts would never win a ribbon, they have very special places in my heart and the hearts of my family. (I haven't told my family the quilts are missing, as I'm praying they'll be found before anyone else notices!)"
If you can help DeAnn recover either one of these quilts, please contact her at [email protected].
