Lotus Block
Kathleen Pappas has misplaced one of her five Lotus blocks. Kathleen designed these blocks from a drawing she made from a photograph. Then she fractured the drawing to create her pattern. Each piece required a template and it was a very difficult piecing process.
The missing block was bordered and backed so she could use it as a sample to teach a class based on Ruth McDowell's "Pieced Flowers" book. It measures 18" by 24" with the borders. The actual block is 12" by 18". The main colors are greens and pinks. She used many hand dyed fabrics including some from Sky Dyes. It was machine pieced in 1998. The block shown here is not the one that is missing, but it is made from the same templates. The fabrics will vary on the missing block.
Kathleen's block was last seen in 2000 at a quilt shop in Lake Forest, California. That day, Kathleen had brought home a stack of quilts which should have included this block. She didn't notice until much later that it was missing. The quilt shop was searched thoroughly to see if it had fallen behind a display or a piece of furniture, but it was not found.
Kathleen writes, "Since it was small and not quilted, perhaps it was picked up or stuck to someone else's quilt when they took quilts home from the shop." If you have seen this block, please contact Kathleen through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.
