Forests of Nukulani
Please be on the lookout for "Forests of Nukulani", made by Libby Shallard and Sue Horta of Pettits Sewing & Craft, Rotorua, New Zealand. This quilt was last seen on February 27, 2005 in the Janome Stand at the Australasian Quilt Convention which was being held at the Melbourne Convention Centre in Australia. It was taken from the stand while everything was being packed up. It had been on a special loan for the show.
This original quilt is about 27" by 47" (60-70cm wide by 100-120cm long). The main colors are forest greens, browns and blues. It has three dimensional trees with leaves, ferns and animals. The leaves, birds, flax and other features were designed using Janome Customizer and embroidered on the Janome 300E. It was machine pieced, machine appliqued and machine quilted in 2004.
An article about this theft can be seen at The Age, an on-line Australian news service.
