Missing Eight Pointed Star
Sara Whitaker Hale is searching for her great-grandmother's quilt. The eight-pointed star quilt was made by Lodemia Clark. Lodemia was born in 1809 and died in 1890. The quilt was made around 1840. It is about double bed size and is made in shades of green on a white background.
Sara's mother loaned this quilt and one other to the Pickering Beach Museum in Sackets Harbor, New York. The picture shows one of the quilts on the bed in the front bedroom of the museum. When Sara returned to the museum in 1985, both of the quilts along with many other items were missing from the museum. The staff had no knowledge or record of the quilts. Both quilts were made with the same pattern and both have a white background. Sara believes the second quilt was made in shades of wine red. They are hand pieced and hand quilted.
