E Pluribus Unum - From the Many, One - United in Liberty and Freedom
In January 1986 Diane L. Armstrong made an original quilt, E Pluribus Unum - From the Many, One - United in Liberty and Freedom. During November 2001, her quilt was on display at the Graham library in Pierce County, Washington. During the night of November 25, 2001 the quilt was stolen when the library was closed.
The background of the center medallion is white with cross-hatched hand quilting. The laurel leaves are appliqued in green. The first border is red with a Greek key quilting design. The outer border is royal blue with intertwining circles quilted around it. The shield is red and white striped with blue on top. The ribbon on the blue shield is gold with the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" embroidered. The outer edges of the quilt are scalloped with no binding. The fabric is seamed into the backing as one. A label is hand appliqued on the back with Diane's name and address. Her name and the date made are also embroidered on the front. The quilt is 74" by 74".
