Dutch Boys and Girls

Joy Gray Zeitelhack would like to recover a quilt made by her grandmother, Lettie Vied Gray of Kuttawa, Kentucky. It is a double sized quilt with muslin background and medium green sashing. It has a prairie point border and is hand appliqued and hand quilted. The quilt has blocks with either Sunbonnet Sue or Overall Andy. Joy's grandmother called it "Dutch Boys and Dutch Girls," perhaps because they all wore black shoes that look like wooden shoes. Their clothes and bonnets are appliqued with various solid colors and prints, very much in the style of the 1930's. The quilt was made in the 1950's.

The quilt was last seen in 1983 in Billings, Montana. Joy's ex-husband Don Ayers took the quilt and possibly sold it. The quilt had been a gift to Joy from her grandmother. It was stored in her cedar chest and never used.

If you have seen a quilt like this, please contact Joy at [email protected].
