Bull Dozer Orphans
This original quilt was last seen on May 23, 2006. The blocks were designed by Helga Curtis and the quilt was made by Marie Taverna. Marie had given it to Helga so it could be used in a lecture and photographed for a book Helga is writing. Helga placed the bag with the quilt in her car after a quilt class. On May 24 she stopped at Second Glace Thrift Store in Brooksville, Florida to drop off a donation of clothes. On May 25 she discovered that she accidentally dropped off the bag containing the quilt instead of the bag containing the clothes. She immediately went to the thrift store and waited for them to open, but she was told the quilt sold for only $50 right after she dropped it off. Helga went to the local newspaper and had a front page story printed asking for the person who bought it to please return it, but no one ever came forward.
Marie writes, "Only another quilter or quilt lover would understand why I would like it back. It was meant to hang on a wall in my home. I would also like to ease Helga's mind about this error so she can stop blaming herself. I appreciate this opportunity to have the quilt community help locate this for me and Helga."
This quilt is about 54" by 68" and was made in 2005. The main colors are browns, blues, and greens. Bark fabrics were used for the trees, sky fabrics were used for some backgrounds. It is hand appliqued and hand quilted. Marie did a three-dimensional affect on the owl's head and the bunny's tail. She also used cotton ribbon for waters foam. It is labeled on the back with both Helga's and Marie's names. The handing sleeve was not yet sewn on.
