Recovered!
Abide With Me
On February 22-25, 2006 Laura Fisher had some antique quilts on display at Heart of Country Antiques Show in Nashville. They were in the center aisle in the special friendship quilt exhibition, near the Country Home Magazine display booth. One quilt, however, was not shipped back to Laura with the other quilts that were on display.
The investigation into its disappearance began and after backtracking through all the events of the pack out and contacting everyone, it was discovered that it had been mistakenly sent off to storage elsewhere. So thankfully, the missing quilt has now been returned to its rightful owner!
This circa 1880s quilt is unique. The format is four large eight-point stars framing a central squarish panel. The phrases "Good Morning" and "Good Night" are embroidered here. The stars appear only as outline embroidery now, because most of the silk piecing has disintegrated. The Victorian quilt is filled with words and sentimental phrases, all of which are clear and distinct. Most of the piecing is gone; little bits are visible throughout the quilt. Most of the embroidery is in red thread, with yellow accents in flowers and other Victorian stitchery motifs.
