Dorothy Hicks reports the loss of a quilt she made for her daughter, Tia Hicks-Hawpe, when she went away to ASU in 2007. The quilt was last seen during September 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona. It was stolen during a burglary along with almost all of Tia’s other belongings.
The ASU Sundevil quilt fits an extra long twin dorm bed. The main colors are burgundy and yellow. It is made with a plaid fabric and was embellished with a Sundevil patch. This quilt is machine pieced and machine quilted. Tia’s name is stitched into the quilt. The label says, “Made for Tia Hicks with love by Mom, Dorothy Hicks, Blythe, Ca 2007.”
Many other quilts were also taken. Tia’s husband’s grandmother is a hand quilter. Her quilts have her name, Betty McDaniel, stitched directly into the quilts, normally with red thread. Also taken was the first quilt Tia ever made, which was a twin size double Irish chain in black, pink, and green with appliqued and machine stitched clovers.
