Recovered! Abide With Me

Abide With Me

Abide With Me

On February 22-25, 2006 Laura Fisher had some antique quilts on display at Heart of Country Antiques Show in Nashville. They were in the center aisle in the special friendship quilt exhibition, near the Country Home Magazine display booth. One quilt, however, was not shipped back to Laura with the other quilts that were on display.

The investigation into its disappearance began and after backtracking through all the events of the pack out and contacting everyone, it was discovered that it had been mistakenly sent off to storage elsewhere. So thankfully, the missing quilt has now been returned to its rightful owner!

Abide With Me, detail

This circa 1880s quilt is unique. The format is four large eight-point stars framing a central squarish panel. The phrases “Good Morning” and “Good Night” are embroidered here. The stars appear only as outline embroidery now, because most of the silk piecing has disintegrated. The Victorian quilt is filled with words and sentimental phrases, all of which are clear and distinct. Most of the piecing is gone; little bits are visible throughout the quilt. Most of the embroidery is in red thread, with yellow accents in flowers and other Victorian stitchery motifs.

Some hand-painted blue fabric was used. The same green fabric was used in different ways for texture, birch bark, and frigned green fabric for moss/grass.

Mallet’s Bay Sunrise is the quilt in the bottom right. It is 24″ by 30″. The main colors are blues, pinks, oranges, and yellow with navy blue, gold and orange borders. America Loves You by Patricia Ann Kacho

America Loves You by Patricia Ann Kacho

Patricia Ann Kacho would like to recover a quilt she made for her son, Patrick Kacho. The patriotic quilt is called “America Loves You.” It has all military services insignias encased in red, white and blue stars and stripes, and hearts with yellow ribbons around them. The quilt is about 50 or 60″ square. It is machine pieced, machine appliqued and hand quilted. The yellow ribbon is made with polished cotton so it is shinier than the other 100% cotton fabrics.

Patricia made the quilt in 1990. It was last seen about January 1991 in Fort Campbell in Tennesse or Kentucky. Her son had a party and someone got sick on it. A friend took it home to clean, and she says she left it with her parents but they have not seen it.

If you have seen this quilt, please contact Patricia through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.
