Iris Medallion by Billie McKouen

Iris Medallion by Billie McKouen

Billie McKouen is hoping to find a quilt that she made for Tom and Sara McKouen for their wedding. It was last seen in 2004 at a storage facility in Burlington, Vermont. A police report was file when it was discovered missing.

This queen size quilt was made with purple, green, and cream fabrics in 2001. It is machine pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted. Billie used a commercial pattern by Mary Gomez found in “50 Country Quilting Projects,” but Billie altered the central blocks to trees and quilted names and dates. This quilt does not have a label, but the center quilting would identify Tom, Sara, Bria Rose and Noah and their birth and wedding dates.

If you find this quilt, please contact Billie through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.

Intricately Pieced Quilt Top

Jun 11 2008

Jeanne Stickler Takano is searching for the maker of a beautiful, intricately pieced quilt top that was left in her care. None of the local guild directories have her name; none of many acquaintances who piece and/or quilt recognize the artist’s name–not even those who also knew the former quilter. Jeanne cannot find a phone number or address (even through vigorous Googling and Yahooing) for the name provided when this work of art was left in her (supposedly) temporary care. Jeanne suspects the quilt top has been out of the artist’s hands for at least 5 years–maybe more–the top and backing have been in her hands for about 2 years.

The quilt top maker gave the top to a quilter in Dallas, Texas. The quilter stopped quilting, moved out of state, and we have lost contact. Before she left, she left this quilt top in my care, with plans for her to return it to the owner. The quilt top is approximately 84" by 94". It is lively, almost primitive gestalt. It has scrappy 1/2" wide piano keys which form sashing. Spring green cornerstones enclose 7-1/2" blocks of 5 concentric squares. All central squares are black, graced by a star embroidered in Perle cotton. There are three borders: black, piano keys, then black. The backing with quilt top is black with green overall geometric design.

If this sounds like your quilt top, please contact Jeanne Stickler Takano through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page to positively identify it.

Common Threads of Texas

Common Threads of Texas

Common Threads of Texas

Sometime before or during 2003, a second place quilt called “Common Threads of Texas” became missing. It was possibly lost in transit or while it was on loan. The quilt is owned by the Texas Department of Agriculture. The photo shown at left is the first place quilt. It is not the quilt that is missing, but the second quilt had many similar characteristics.

This was a competition quilt where each block was submitted by a different Texas quilter, and each depicts agriculture, farm, and ranch life in Texas. This quilt has twelve brightly colored blocks, some with a cloud background. It is sashed and bordered in dark green. Some blocks include wool, mohair, and/or leather. It was quilted by Alice Griggs. There may be a label listing the names of the twelve winners. The quilt was made in 1997.

If you’ve seen a quilt that fits this description, please contact Mary York through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.

Irish Chain Stars by Debra Duvall

Irish Chain Stars by Debra Duvall

Debra Duvall is searching for her Irish Chain Stars quilt. Debra made the quilt for her good friend Mindi’s first anniversary. In 2004 Mindi’s house was devastated by all the hurricanes that went through Florida. All her quilts were packed up and survived Charley, Francis, and Ivan. The last time she knew for sure that she had the quilt was in November 2004 . That is when she emptied the house and everything went into storage.

Debra used a pattern by Log Cabin Creations. Her purple, turquoise and tank quilt is 77″ by 92″. The centers of the blocks are purple velvet. It was machine pieced and hand quilted in 2000. The label is embroidered, “Keith and Mindi 2/5/2000″ along the bottom border.

Please contact Debra through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.
