Appliqued Animals Crib Quilt

Mar 10 2008

Mike and Julia McGee are searching for a crib quilt that was made by Mike’s grandmother, Laura Welch, in 1947. The crib sized quilt features appiqued animals (possibly cats) in blue and white. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. The quilt was last seen in July 1972 in a laundrymat on the corner of Waverly and Jolly in Lansing, Michigan. It was taken from the dryer, along with several other handmade baby quilts, while Julia was tending several other loads and two children.

Julia writes, “I lost a quilt that both my mother and mother-in-law and I had all embroibered blocks for and one that an elderly neighbor hand pieced for my first baby. It was a tumbling block in bright colors. I believe there my have been others in that load but I can’t remember for sure. It broke my heart to lose them. We were in the process of moving and didn’t know what to do about the loss.”

Famous Signatures

Mar 01 2008

Vickie Rammel hopes to be reunited with a quilt that is part of her family’s history. The quilt was made by Vickie’s grandmother, Carabelle Jones. It was sold at auction in Spring Valley, Ohio sometime in the late 1970′s or early 1980′s. The family thinks it may have been bought by a person in Florida.

The quilt is a full size bed quilt. It has approximately 365 silk squares featuring signature of famous people. The signatures are embroidered. It has a label handsewn to the back with Carabelle’s name.

Vickie writes, “We have searched for many years to at least know where this quilt is. As a girl growing up we anticipated the signatures that included, Charles Manson, Elvis and Ronald Reagan, coming in the mail. It is a part of my family history that I am afraid I will never be able to share with my now grown children. It was featured once in Ohio Magazine in the late 70′s to early 80′s. We would just like to know where it is and who owns it.”

Purple Tulip Quilt

Dec 21 2007

Joyce Mitchell dreams of recovering a Purple Tulip quilt which was made by her grandmother. It was intended to be a gift for Joyce when she got married. The quilt last seen in June 1971 in Denard, Arkansas. When Joyce’s grandmother moved in with her aunt, the quilt “disappeared” from the linen closet. Joyce suspects her aunt really sold it. If that is the case, it was probably sold or given away in Jacksonville, Arkansas around 1980 or so.

This purple and white quilt fits a double bed. It is hand pieced and hand quilted.

Joyce writes, “I really would love to have my quilt. I would be willing to buy it from whom ever has it.” If you can help, please contact Joyce at joycemitchell310@aol.com.
