Flower Basket Quilt

Nov 28 2001

Flower Basket by Kathleen Slabodnik

Flower Basket by Kathleen Slabodnik

Mary M. Marty is looking for a quilt that was made by her mother, Kathleen Slabodnik. The flower basket quilt was last seen on August 19, 1993 when it was dropped off at Ellen’s of Ely, a quilt and fabric store, so it could be exhibited in a quilt show. The quilt never made it to the show. Mary suspects the quilt may still be in the Ely, Minnesota area or it may have been taken to the Washington state area.

This quilt fits a full size bed. It is made of blue florals and solid blue on a white background. It was machine pieced and hand quilted in 1985. A label sewn onto the back says, “Hand made by Kathleen Slabodnik.”

Mary says, “My mom puts her heart into her quilts, so this took quite a toll on her…I would love to see this one restored to my mom after all these years.” If you can help reunite this quilt with its proper owner, please contact Mary at jandmmarty@msn.com.

Ribbon and Stars Quilt

Sep 13 2001

Ribbon and Stars by Janet McLaughlin

Ribbon and Stars by Janet McLaughlin

Janet McLaughlin last saw her Ribbon and Stars Quilt at a store in Long Beach, New York around 1992. When the store closed, the owner took the entire contents of the store.

The quilt, approximately 50″ by 50″, was made from a commercial pattern. Janet used dark blues, light pinks and light greens. The white border has a ribbon made of dark blue with light pink accenting the curvature of the ribbons. The center of the quilt has eight Ohio Star blocks: three in dark shades of blue, three in lighter shades of green (maybe one more in blue), and two in pink. The stars are made with a 2″ to 3″ center block with eight half triangles around it. It is machine pieced and machine quilted and has a label which says, “Especially Made By Janet McLaughlin.” The label was hand appliqued on.

Janet writes, “Any help locating this is appreciated.” Please contact Janet at ktmcl@aol.com.

Ohio Rose Miniature Quilt

May 03 2001

Ohio Rose by Debbie Miller

Ohio Rose by Debbie Miller

Please be on the look out for this miniature Ohio Rose Quilt which was stolen from Kalona Kountry Kreations in Kalona, Iowa. Debbie Miller had the quilt on display at this quilt store and it was for sale. One morning in 1995 two ladies came in the store and the quilt was taken down from the wall so they could look at it up close. After they were finished the quilt was put back up on the wall. Later in the day it was discovered that the quilt was missing.

This cream, green and burgundy quilt is 18″ by 18&quot. Fabrics used are shown below. Debbie used a pattern published by Needleart Guild of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She followed the pattern for the quilting blocks but when she got to the border she changed the quilting pattern. It is hand appliqued, machine pieced and hand quilted. Debbie doesn’t remember if she wrote her name on the back.

If you can help, please contact Debbie at grandrose55@lcom.net.

Hawaiian Bleach Discharge Quilt

Apr 05 2000

Hawaiian Bleach Discharge by Amie Kusak

Hawaiian Bleach Discharge by Amie Kusak

Amie Kusak had this original quilt on display at Homespun Harbor, a quilt shop in Aiea near Honolulu, Hawaii. It was hanging on the wall as a class sample before it disappeared sometime during the first couple months of 2000.

The quilt is 27″ by 27″. It was made using the bleach discharge method. The center medallion is NOT appliqud. The puffy center is also enhanced using machine trapunto and the background is very closely stippled by machine. There is a little patch next to the center motif where Amie accidentally cut the front fabric when trimming the trapunto batting.

The quilt uses a blue and purple Bali batik with a swirly design and a deep purple narrow border and binding. It was made by Amie during the spring of 1996. It was labeled with Amies name, the date finished, and location (Fort Hood, Texas). The label was appliqud on, so it could possibly be removed.

If you can give us any information about this quilt, please contact Amie at Kusakk@aol.com.

Pink and Green Lover’s Knot

Feb 03 2000

Fabric used

Fabric used

Patricia Pate reports that she loaned a pink and green Lover’s Knot quilt top to a Cloth World fabric store in Oklahoma City in 1992 or 1993. It mysteriously disappeared and was never found.

The pink and green fabric scraps from the two outside border are shown to the right. The rest of the quilt was pink and cream. The quilt top was about lap size. It had no label since it was not quilted yet.

The quilt top was loaned to Cloth World on May Avenue and Britton Road in Oklahoma City. It was to be displayed to promote quilting. That store is no longer in business. As far as Patricia knows, it was never displayed and, when she asked for it back, no one knew anything about it.

If you know of a quilt or quilt top that matches this description, please Patricia at okquilt1@aol.com or PateP@McKinneyStringer.com.
