Sawtooth Star Baby Quilt

Feb 21 2000

Robin Neas has reported that her daughter’s baby quilt was lost during their family vacation last summer, sometime between July 2 and July 5, 1999. They stopped at a McDonalds restaurant between Mitchell and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. When they discovered the loss, they returned to the McDonalds, but none of the employees remembered seeing it.

The quilt is purple, lavender and white and is pieced in the sawtooth star pattern. There are nine sawtooth stars and the quilt is approximately 36″ square. Her daughters name, Rebecca Neas, was written around the edge.

Robin says, “It would sure mean a lot to me to find this quilt, as it was the first quilt I hand quilted.” If you have any information about this quilt, please contact Robin at BRNEAS@aol.com.

Springtime Bouquet

Jan 12 2000

Springtime Bouquet by Susan Schwarz

Springtime Bouquet by Susan Schwarz

Susan Schwarz created this quilt, Springtime Bouquet, in response to the quilt challenge sponsored by The Childrens Inn, Bethesda, Maryland, a non-profit organization providing a family-centered residence for seriously ill children and their families.

Springtime Bouquet, along with a second quilt called “Heron in the Harbor,” turned up missing on December 3, 1999 before all of the challenge quilts could be displayed.

Susan Schwarzs quilt is 22.5″ by 26.5″ and has a predominantly deep purple border. Susan used the swirly challenge fabric in the four corners and in the vase. The snippets quilt is made with a mosaic of small pieces of fabric fused to the background fabric. The quilt her name on the back of the quilt.

These quilts were donated, so this quilt actually belongs to the Childrens Inn.

If you know anything about where this quilt is, please contact Margo Bradford, Operations Manager of The Childrens Inn, at mhb@Box-M.nih.gov or 800-644-4660.

Stars Over the Georgetown Path by Lela Hadraval

This prize winning quilt, called Stars Over the Georgetown Path, was pieced and hand quilted by Lela Hadrava. It was stolen on September 15, 1999 after it was dropped off for the Eastern Iowa Heirloom Quilt Show which was held at the Teamsters Hall, 5000 J Street, SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The theft was discovered on the morning of September 16 when it could not be found for judging.

The quilt is 94″ by 104″. There are six different fabrics: a floral Hoffman print that has rose and purple raspberries with a black background, two shades of rose fabric, two shades of green fabric, and a cream and gold background fabric. A label is sewn on the back.

Lela was the “featured quilter” this year at her guild show. The picture shown above was taken at the 1999 Dyersville, Iowa quilt show where it won a “Best of Show” award.

If you have any information on the location of this quilt, please contact Nan Fowler at Cy33@aol.com.
