Middle Eastern Quilt

Apr 18 2002

Estelle Guizar has acquired a quilt which she believes may be a family heirloom. It was found in Gilroy, California. The quilt seems to have Middle Eastern influence.
It is about 72" by 96". The colors range from darks to pastels. The focal point looks like Chinese checkers framed by eternity symbols and script. The center of the quilt has a six-petal, yellow flower with an embroidered green center. It is hand pieced, hand appliqued and hand quilted. Estelle estimates it was made about 15-25 years ago. The quilt also has a label with Middle Eastern script.

Collectible Double Wedding Ring

Apr 12 2002

Can you please help Anne Copeland locate a missing quilt? In September 2001 she brought a collection of quilts to the quilt sale and show at Piecemakers Country Store in Costa Mesa, California. The day of the show she had a very bad fall and she wasn’t feeling well, so when she packed up her quilts she did not inventory them carefully. Recently she was looking amoung her quilts and discovered that her best and most expensive Double Wedding Ring quilt was missing.

This circa 1930 quilt is 92″ by 124″. The rings are 15-3/4″ by 17″ with 2″ deep pieces. Each ring consists of extremely small pieces about 1/2″ wide of many different prints in one color so the entire quilt consists of pastel print rings of interlocking colors. The diamond joiners are in the same color as the ring. It is very unusual and very striking. It is machine pieced and hand quilted. The backing is green cotton (typical 1930′s green) and a cotton sheet was used for batting. It has a 1/4″ applied green bias binding (not commercially purchased) on a scalloped edge. The quilting is nice but not heavy.

If have any information about a quilt that matches this description, please contact Anne through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page.

ABC Embroidered Crib Quilt

Feb 08 2002

In 1995, proud grandma Teresa Johnson hand embroidered a pre-printed ABC quilt panel for her first granddaughter. Sometime during the summer of 2000, the other set of grandparents brought the grandbaby to the Saint Louis Zoo or possibly at a restaurant during the trip to the zoo. No one realized until hours later that the quilt was apparently left behind.

The quilt is crib size, 40″ by 60″ . Each block is embroidered with a different pastel color and has a white background. Teresa hand quilted it and folded the backing to the front to form the binding.

If you recognize the description of this baby quilt, please contact Teresa at nannytj@yahoo.com.

Rail Fence Quilt

Sep 06 2001

Allison Tipton, age 11, and Katy Dunlap, also age 11, made a pastel Rail Fence quilt based on a pattern from the book, “Start Quilting with Alex Anderson.” In June 2001, they went to a church camp and brought the quilt along to put it in a competition. The trailer containing the quilt was stolen. The quilt was last seen in Posen, Illinois.

This quilt was the first one they ever made. The two girls machine pieced the twin size quilt and tied it with yarn. Their names were embroidered directly on the back of the quilt with pink embroidery floss. It said, “Allison, Katy, 2001.” On a bright note, they did have a picture of their quilt and won first place in the competition based on the picture!

If you have seen a quilt that fits this description, please contact Allison at dianet64@hotmail.com.

Charm Quilt

May 03 2001

Jan Rhees is looking for a charm quilt which has been missing since 1976. It was last seen in Nashville, Tennessee. This queen or full size quilt, which was made in the 1960s, was hand pieced, hand appliqued and hand quilted. It is mainly yellows, greens and reds on white or pastel cottons. It has a distinctive ivy fabric and the other fabrics are all different and one of a kind. The batting was thin. The label was hand-sewn on and may be signed either Elizabeth Hughes, Harriett Taff or Jan T. Rhees. When the quilt was lost it was in mint condition.

Please contact Jan Rhees at janrhees@earthlink.net.

Reproduction Print Quilts

Jan 26 2000

Log Cabin by Suzanne Leimer

Log Cabin by Suzanne Leimer

Suzanne Leimer created two quilts using 1930s reproduction fabric and had them on display at her store, Suzannes Quilt Shop, in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. In the past six months these two quilts were stolen.

The first quilt that was stolen is a 57″ by 76″ log cabin pattern which she had made from 100% cotton 1930s fabric she had been collecting for ten years. The quilt was machine pieced and machine quilted in an all-over stipple pattern. The center of the log cabin is a solid yellow and the binding is solid pink. Cotton batting was used. The backing is a P&B print that is off-white with a pink design. The quilt did not have a label.

The log cabin quilt was stolen on Saturday, August 20, 1999. Five yards of pink 1930s reproduction fabric was stolen at the same time. The picture shown to the left (top picture) is not the quilt Suzanne made, but it is from the book “Housewarmers” by Possibilities which she used to make the quilt. (Log Cabin photo is used with permission from Possibilities.)

All Creatures by Suzanne Leimer

All Creatures by Suzanne Leimer

The second quilt was stolen from the same store on Saturday, January 15, 2000. All Creatures Great and Small was made using the second book in the Blessing Quilt Series by Four Corners. This quilt has hand embroidery, hand applique, machine piecing, and machine quilting. It is 41″ by 47″. Most of the fabrics are 1930s reproduction prints and all fabrics are 100% cotton. The narrow inner green border is a star print on a green background by Marcus. The outside border is a pink check by P&B Fabrics. The backing is white with small pastel flowers, also by P&B Fabrics. There was no label on this quilt.

This quilt had been on display, clothes-pinned to a lattice wall at the front of the store when it was stolen. The second picture is from the Four Corners book; it is not Suzannes quilt. (All Creatures Great and Small photo is used with permission from Four Corners.)

Both of these quilts were to be for a future granddaughter. If you have any information about either of these two quilts, please contact Suzanne at suzqu@bellsouth.net or 561-798-0934 or visit her quilt shops webpage.
