Shawn’s Fire Quilt

Oct 11 2009

Cescily Abbott hopes someone has found her quilt, "Shawn’s Fire Quilt". It was last seen on September 25, 2009 near I-10 and Shepard in Houston, Texas. The quilt was inside a bag that was stolen from inside her husband’s truck. A police report has been filed.

This is a full-size quilt made with bright colors: yellows, reds, blues, greens, and some gray. It has fire fighter-related fabrics, black with dalmations, yellow with red fire trucks, white with black paw prints, and standing fire fighters for an inner border. The quilt also has the fire fighters prayer attached to it and, in an upper corner, it has a picture of the fire fighters raising the American Flag after 9/11. The quilt is backed in red fabric. The quilt was machine pieced and machine appliqued in 2002-2003. There is a label hand-appliqued to the lower left corner that says "A love note to my husband."

Baltimore Album Quilt Top

Mar 24 2009

In 1990 Susan Bergman made a Baltimore Album quilt top using commercial patterns by Elly Sienkiewicz. She made it when she took a block-of-the-month class through a store in Colleyville, Texas. Susan last saw her quilt top somewhere around 2002-2005. She had taught a quilt class at Garland High School and apparently left it behind.

The quilt top is a double size. There are twelve blocks set three across and four down. The background is a two-toned gray. Other colors include maroons and dark green. Most of the designs are from Elly’s book. There is one block with children’s handprints that were from Susan’s sons. One block is a circle of children. The blocks are hand appliqued.

Please contact Susan through the Lost Quilt Come Home Page if you’ve seen a quilt that fits this description.

The Cat's Meow by Katherine Holzknecht

Katherine Holzknecht entered her quilt into the Kenmore Art Show held at Northlake Lutheran Church in Kenmore, Washington. On August 15, 2008, the church was broken into and her quilt, seven photographs, four computers, and miscellaneous office equipment were stolen.

Katherine altered a knitting magazine design to create this quilt. It is 44″ by 71″. It includes shades of brown, black, white, gray, and magenta. There are fifteen blocks of cat silhouettes. The borders have mice and stripes. The main surface of the quilt is knitted with three rows of five blocks sewn together, and the knitted border is sewn on. The backing fabric is quilted to the surface with heavy white cotton yarn. Each block is padded. The fuzzy backing fabric is rolled on the edges and sewn down as another border. This quilt was started in 2003 and quilted in 2008.
