Flower Basket Quilt

Nov 28 2001

Flower Basket by Kathleen Slabodnik

Flower Basket by Kathleen Slabodnik

Mary M. Marty is looking for a quilt that was made by her mother, Kathleen Slabodnik. The flower basket quilt was last seen on August 19, 1993 when it was dropped off at Ellen’s of Ely, a quilt and fabric store, so it could be exhibited in a quilt show. The quilt never made it to the show. Mary suspects the quilt may still be in the Ely, Minnesota area or it may have been taken to the Washington state area.

This quilt fits a full size bed. It is made of blue florals and solid blue on a white background. It was machine pieced and hand quilted in 1985. A label sewn onto the back says, “Hand made by Kathleen Slabodnik.”

Mary says, “My mom puts her heart into her quilts, so this took quite a toll on her…I would love to see this one restored to my mom after all these years.” If you can help reunite this quilt with its proper owner, please contact Mary at jandmmarty@msn.com.

Rainbow Bargello Quilt

Rainbow Bargello by Peg Viole

Rainbow Bargello by Peg Viole

A Rainbow Bargello quilt (shown to the left in a sales booth) was lost on April 29, 2001 during the AQS quilt show in Paducah, Kentucky. The quilt was left in a large garbage bag at the back river entrance under the pool of the Executive Center. There were also four hand crocketed rugs in the same bag.

Peg Viole made the quilt in 1999. The main colors are lime green, orange, blue, red, yellow and purple. All of the colors are bright and the border is a crayon-colored floral print. The backing is a distinctive green and orange bali print. This quilt is approximately 80″ by 90″, but this is just an estimated size. It is machine pieced and machine quilted and it does not have a label.

Can you help Peg find this quilt? Please contact her at cindyo@quiltersfancy.com.

Missing Round Robin Quilt Tops

Feb 13 2001

Eight women participated in a on-line round robin quilt exchange. Unfortunately, not all eight women received their quilts in the end. One quilt top was missing for 2-1/2 years before it was found and returned to its owner. Two others are still missing. Can you help us locate these quilt tops?

Cathy Marshall of Wyoming was part of this same round robin group. The center of her quilt top was a pieced angel from a commercial pattern, about 24-inches. It was done with many Moda fabrics. Cathy is willing to pay for the return of her quilt top. You can contact Cathy Marshall at fxr3_@excite.com.

Cathy Janes of The Plains, Ohio is also still waiting for her missing top. She does not have a photo of the quilt, but when she worked on it, the center was a dark green Moda and Hoffman pansy floral on a black background with a Bentrax yellow. The pattern she used was ribbon friendship stars. She does not know what it looks like now that others have added to it. If you have any information on her quilt top, please contact Cathy Janes at janes@ohiou.edu.

Dad’s Garden Quilt

Oct 18 2000

Dad's Garden Quilt by Dian Moore

Dad's Garden Quilt by Dian Moore

Dian Moore is searching for the garden quilt she had made for her dad, Ray Armstrong. He slept under this quilt for four years while he was in the P.A. Peterson Nursing Home in Rockford, Illinois.

On February 15, 1999, the day her father died, the quilt disappeared off his bed. It is possible the quilt was sent to a laundry service in the Madison, Wisconsin area, but if it was, the quilt never returned. So the quilt was either stolen at the nursing home or at the laundry.

Dad's Garden Quilt, back

Dad's Garden Quilt, back

The front of the twin-size quilt is made up of fifteen different blocks made of a variety of floral red and green fabrics. Dark green sashing separates the blocks across the quilt. The quilt was labeled on the back with her name, city and other information.

If you can help Dian, please e-mail her at eless1@ix.netcom.com. You can also view this stolen quilt on Dian’s website, http://home.netcom.com/~Eeless1/page3.html.

The Magic of Black

Oct 28 1999

Magic of Black by Helen Baczynski

Magic of Black by Helen Baczynski

This quilt, The Magic of Black, made by Helen J. Baczynski of Las Vegas, NV, was part of the 1999 Hoffman Challenge quilt collection. It was traveling with Hoffman Collection A. It was stolen from the West Sound Quilters Quilt Show (Port Orchard, Washington) on October 21, 1999.

This quilt is about 40″ by 40″. The floral fabric used is an Oriental inspired design with tomato red, hyacinth blue, and green leaves against a cream and white background. The quilt was done in raw-edge, reverse applique.

It is machine quilted as shown in the picture to the left (colors have been adjusted to show the stitching). It is quilted with red circles and filling stitches of black, blue and gold. The border is stitched with half circles in black accented with stippling. The large black background is also stipple quilted in black.

It is labeled on the back with the name of the quilt, Helens name and address on muslin which is mounted on a piece of the challenge fabric with pinked edges. The label was attached in a way that it could be removed, however.

Helen has a website displaying this quilt. If you have any information on the location of this quilt, please contact Helen at Helen@lvcm.com or the quilt show chairman, Charol L. Riedel at upholsterylady@prodigy.net.
