Born to Ride

Jan 02 2012

Born to Ride by C. Diane ThomasOn or around November 23, 2011, C. Diane Thomas shipped a quilt from Columbia Falls, Montana to Waterford, Wisconsin. The shipping company says they delivered the package, but it never arrived. They are supposted to be looking into the situation, but have found nothing.

The quilt was intended as a gift to Anthony Hoffman. It is approximately 110″ by 120″. The main colors are black and white with a red and “snakeskin” checkerboard border which separates the central motif from the outer border. She used Alexander Henry’s “Born to Ride” fabric #1584, which depicts skeletons wearing leathers and riding motorcycles. She appliqued with red thread and has a curled up snake in the center of the quilt.

The quilt is machine pieced, machine appliqued, and machine quilted. It was finished in November 2011 just before she sent it off. The quilt has a 1/2″ strip label sewn into the binding on the reverse side near a corner. The label says something close to, “Made for Anthony Thomas Hoffman, Milw. Wis. from Uncle Anthony and Aunt Diane Thomas, Columbia Falls, MT.”

If you find this quilt, please contact Diane at cdthomas@cyberport.net.

State Flowers of Arizona and New York

Jul 04 2011

State Flowers of Arizona and New York by Lori BiehleLori Biehle is hoping someone knows where this special quilt is. She made it for her grandmother, Greeta Pelton, on her 90th birthday in 2004. At the time, she and her two children flew to Arizona for her party. She chose to depict the state flowers of New York and Arizona since that is where her grandmother spent her adult life. When she moved into Faithful Heart Assisted Living in Tucson, Arizona, Lori assumed the quilt went with her.

The quilt is about 40″ by 60″. The main colors are cream, black, yellow, and red. It includes a fabric with red roses on a yellow/cream background and another fabric with yellow saguaro cactus flowers with some black. The pattern is a “camp” pattern. It is machine quilted on a home sewing machine. It has a label on the back that says it is a 90th birthday gift for Greeta Pelton from Lori, Jim, Julia, and sam.

When her grandmother passed away in December 2010 at age 97, some of her things may have ended up in Herndon, Virginia with family. Lori was told that most of her things were donated to charity. However, Lori is hoping she can recover this quilt. If it was donated to Goodwill or Salvation Army, she is happy to repay the purchaser plus shipping, and make a matching donation to the organization.

If you find this quilt, please contact Lori at ljbiehle@sbcglobal.net.

Flora by Diana Galson-Kooy

Flora by Diana Galson-Kooy

Diana Galson-Kooy needs help recovering her “Flora” quilt. It was last seen in August 2010 at the Newton Cultural Center in Newton, Massachusetts. It had been part of a multi-media art show called “Seasons of Flowers.”

This original quilt is 18″ by 16″. The main colors are yellow, black, and red. Diana used silks, shiny fabrics, batiks, and a black and white striped background. It is fused and machine applique, machine pieced, and machine quilted. Diana embellished the quilt with shiny beads, tube beads, and sequins. There is a typed label fused to the back of the quilt. The label is attached upside down so when the quilt is hanging and the corner is flipped up, the label is right side up.

Please contact Diana at diana.kooy@gmail.com if you can help in the recovery of this quilt. There is a $100 reward for its safe return.

Sami’s Log Cabin Quilt

Jul 24 2010

Tabitha Lustig is hoping someone has found the quilt she made for Samantha Casas. The quilt was made in 2008 for Sami’s 18th birthday, and it is the first quilt Tabitha made using free-motion quilting. The quilt was last seen in Henderson, Nevada.

It is a queen-size log cabin quilt, made mostly of black, white, red, orange, and yellow fabrics. The backing is orange flannel. It is machine pieced and machine quilted. Tabitha also quilted suns, moons, and the phrase “I love you Sami” in the quilt. Sami’s step-mother threw the quilt away.

Tabitha writes, “I am hoping that someone, if indeed the quilt was thrown away…by some miracle saved it and may still have it.” If you’ve seen a quilt that fits this description, please contact Tabitha at tabitha.lustig@cox.net.

Noah’s Quilt

Jun 22 2010

Noah's Quilt by Debra Sue Zimmerman

Noah's Quilt

In February 2010 Debra Sue Zimmerman made a quilt for her friend’s son. She mailed it from Voorheesville, New York but when she addressed it, she accidentally transposed two of the four digits in the street address. Although she included her return address, nothing was ever returned. Both she and the recipient followed up with their respective post offices to no avail.

This is a machine pieced and machine quilted, twin size quilt. The top is made up of black and white blocks with a smattering of yellow blocks. It has a black, white, and yellow pieced border, and the backing is bright orange. Some of the black and white fabrics include the alphabet and a crossword puzzle fabric. There is a dedication to “Noah” on the back in one corner. It is signed by Debra Sue and dated with her SpiralZ Studios symbol (a spiral on top with a Z in the middle and another spiral on the bottom in a vertical design). The label is hand written and hand drawn.

If you have any information about this missing quilt, please contact Debra Sue at mamaodyssey@mac.com.

Sean’s Dog Quilt

Jun 04 2010

Alicia Traywick is asking for help locating Sean’s Dog Quilt. It was last seen in September 2008 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The quilt may have gotten mixed up with other things and been accidentally given away to the Salvation Army.

Alicia does not have a picture of the quilt, this twin size quilt has dogs on it and the color black is prominently featured. The quilt is machine pieced and commercially quilted. She knows it had a label which said something like, "To Sean from Grandma Pat." It may also say "Happy Birthday" or "Pat Woodard." The label was on the back at the bottom.

If you have seen a quilt that fits this description, please contact Alicia at pssykat22@aol.com.

Asian Elementals

Apr 03 2010

Asian Elementals by Stephanie Vesik

Asian Elementals by Stephanie Vesik

Stephanie Vesik is searching for a quilted wall hanging called "Asian Elementals" which she made for Samuel Stem. It is an original quilt which is approximately 70" high by 50" wide. This quilt was last seen in New Braunfels, Texas. It was in a backpack strapped to a motorcycle. Someone cut the straps on the backpack and stole the bag with the contents.

Stephanie used four Kona Bay Emperor panels which she machine quilted and bound with black cotton. Each panel is hand embroidered to emphasize the gold foil highlights. Each panel is individually quilted to represent fire, air, earth, and wind with a Japanese symbol in the top banner’s binding. Each panel is held to one another by means of Velcro bridges. This was done so the quilt could be displayed either as a traditional two by two panel quilt or as a banner with four across. Each panel has two loops at the top for hanging. Stephanie labeled each panel on the back with black ink. It says, "To Grim (heart symbol) Steph."

If you find this quilt, please email Stephanie at firizia@yahoo.com.

Two Trip Around the World Quilts

Oct 27 2009

Eileen Burke is hoping to find two Trip Around the World quilts which she made. The quilts were last seen in 2005 in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. One is twin size, and the other is double size, approximately 81" by 81".

One quilt is a bright rainbow Trip Around the World quilt with black, white, and pink with lots of busy prints. This one is a finished comforter, tied with embroidery floss in colors to match, which made a design on the plain black backing. The finished one has a hand-embroidered label in rainbow colors that says, "For Alanna, Love Mom, 1996."

The other is a twilight version, very plain and somber. This one is only a top. It is made mostly of men’s shirts in lavender, blue, green, and navy blue. This one seems to "move" when you look at it.

Please contact Eileen at epaburke@gmail.com.
