Country Cottage

Jan 08 2002

In 2001 Marian Watkins made a double bed size quilt top with eighteen blocks. Each block has a cream colored background with a cottage. Each cottage is done with different colors. She used a commercial pattern from the Australian Patchwork & Quilting Magazine, Volume 1, Number 3, page 89. The quilt top is hand pieced and hand appliqued and it is embellished with hand embroidery.

Marian last saw her quilt top in September 2001 in Spotlight Store, Brisbane, Australia. She believes she accidentally left it at the store when she was shopping for more fabric. If you have seen this quilt top, please contact Marian at omwcwf@tadaust.org.au.

Moose Quilt by Stacey Green

Moose Quilt by Stacey Green

Stacey Green is looking for three quilts that became missing during a move. They were last seen during June 2001 in Fort Richardson, Alaska when they were being packed for shipment to their new home.

“Moose and Mountains” was made using a commercial pattern called “Moose in the Marsh” by Peggy S. Kay (used with permission). It is about 36″ by 36″. The main colors are dark and light blue, dark red, dark green and yellow and the quilt was machine pieced, machine appliqued and machine quilted. Stacey also paper pieced parts of it when she made it in 2000.

Eskimo Quilt by Stacey Green

“Eskimos and Northern Lights,” right, was also made using a commercial pattern. It is about 15″ by 15″. It is mainly blue and green and features rabbit fur on the hoods and boots of the Eskimos. It is machine pieced, machine appliqued and machine quilted. Stacey made this quilt in 2000. This quilt was designed by a friend of Stacey’s.

“Northern Lights” (not shown) is an original design of a village with the Northern Lights shining above it. It is about 24″ by 36″. It is mostly blue with a dark red border and a teal tie-dye style of fabric for the lights. It is machine pieced, machine appliqued and machine quilted and was made in 1999.

Romance of the Roses

Oct 19 2001

During February 1999, Bridgette Sharpe took a Delta Airlines flight from San Antonio to Dallas, Texas. She brought with her the quilt that she had worked on for six years and she accidentally left it on the plane. When she realized that she didn’t have it, she returned to the airplane and discovered it had been stolen.

Bridgette used Georgia Bonesteel’s Romance of the Roses pattern found on page 25 of “More Lap Quilting.” This pattern is also found in “Patchwork Potpourri.” The main colors of Bridgette’s quilt are burgundy, dark green and white. The quilt consists of nine blocks, hand appliqued with roses. She also hand quilted it. She made a label, but it was not attached yet. When the quilt was stolen, the label was in the same bag as the quilt. The label said something like this: Made by Bridgette Marie (Seidlich) Sharpe / for Virginia Darlington Seidlich / for her 80th birthday. / Started 1993 and completed 1999.

Bridgette says, “It took me a long time to make this quilt for my grandmother…I know the chances are slim but I would love to find it and can reward anyone who returns it.” If you know anything about this quilt, please contact Bridgette at gigiorgin@aol.com.

Rail Fence Quilt

Sep 06 2001

Allison Tipton, age 11, and Katy Dunlap, also age 11, made a pastel Rail Fence quilt based on a pattern from the book, “Start Quilting with Alex Anderson.” In June 2001, they went to a church camp and brought the quilt along to put it in a competition. The trailer containing the quilt was stolen. The quilt was last seen in Posen, Illinois.

This quilt was the first one they ever made. The two girls machine pieced the twin size quilt and tied it with yarn. Their names were embroidered directly on the back of the quilt with pink embroidery floss. It said, “Allison, Katy, 2001.” On a bright note, they did have a picture of their quilt and won first place in the competition based on the picture!

If you have seen a quilt that fits this description, please contact Allison at dianet64@hotmail.com.

Hoppy Frog Quilt

Aug 17 2001

Hoppy Frog by Barbara Dieges

Hoppy Frog by Barbara Dieges

This “Hoppy Frog” quilt was stolen during one of the quilt guild classes Barbara Dieges taught. Barbara estimates that the last time she saw the quilt was in May or April of 2000, somewhere in Central California. Barbara says, “I give lectures and workshops to many guilds in California. I usually bring a minimum of 40 quilts to these functions. I allow people to handle my quilts after each lecture, so they can get close to see the work. It must have been taken in one of these instances.”

The quilt, made in 1997, is approximately 29″ by 40″. There are twelve frogs, four of which are facing sideways. The frogs appear to be hopping up and down. There are also five ceramic bumblebee buttons sewn onto the surface of the quilts. Barbara used browns and hand-dyed greens for the frogs and off-white/beige for the background. Distinctive fabrics, shown below, include a stylized frog print. The quilt was machine pieced and machine quilted. The frog feet are sewn in at the seam, but hang loosely so they are three-dimensional. Each frog has brown button eyes.

This design was sold as a commercial pattern, so there may be similar quilts. These fabrics, however, are fairly unique and are generally no longer available. The label for this quilt says “bdieges designs ©1997″. It may have been written directly onto the quilt backing.

Please contact Barbara at quilt@bdieges.com if you have any information on this quilt.

Ohio Rose Miniature Quilt

May 03 2001

Ohio Rose by Debbie Miller

Ohio Rose by Debbie Miller

Please be on the look out for this miniature Ohio Rose Quilt which was stolen from Kalona Kountry Kreations in Kalona, Iowa. Debbie Miller had the quilt on display at this quilt store and it was for sale. One morning in 1995 two ladies came in the store and the quilt was taken down from the wall so they could look at it up close. After they were finished the quilt was put back up on the wall. Later in the day it was discovered that the quilt was missing.

This cream, green and burgundy quilt is 18″ by 18&quot. Fabrics used are shown below. Debbie used a pattern published by Needleart Guild of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She followed the pattern for the quilting blocks but when she got to the border she changed the quilting pattern. It is hand appliqued, machine pieced and hand quilted. Debbie doesn’t remember if she wrote her name on the back.

If you can help, please contact Debbie at grandrose55@lcom.net.

Tessellated Fish

Sep 08 2000

Linda of Kalamazoo is hoping to find her daughters quilt. It was stolen from her daughters room in a house in Albuquerque, New Mexico during the Spring of 1999.

The twin-size quilt is a tessellated fish pattern and was done in cottons and satins. It was made from a pattern found in a Quilters Newsletter Magazine in the early 1980s. The colors were greens, golds, blues and purples, mostly scraps. It also has a very unusual quilting pattern in the center.

If you have seen a quilt that matches this description, please contact Linda at Lcsrn927@aol.com.

Maple Leaf Quilt

Mar 22 2000

Sue Pelletier of Oakland, Maine is looking for her a king-size Maple Leaf quilt.

This quilt was made from a maple leaf pattern that was featured in a ladys magazine many years ago. All the leaves were appliqud on with a machine feather stitch, probably with black thread. There were many different fabrics used including World War II cottons and 1950s shirting material. The sashing was maroon, possibly not even 100% cotton. Each block was quilted separately by machine and the pack pieces were whip-stitched together.

She had lent this quilt to her brother-in-law. When he died in 1994, Sue’s sister sold the quilt at a yard sale in Orrington, Maine.

The quilt is labeled either with “S C Pelletier”, “Susan C. Pelletier”, or “Sue Pelletier”. The dates when she started and finished, sometime during the 1980s, were also on the label.

Sue would really like to get this quilt back. She is willing to reimburse whoever bought this quilt. If you know anything about this quilt, please contact Diana at dianapou@together.net.

Reproduction Print Quilts

Jan 26 2000

Log Cabin by Suzanne Leimer

Log Cabin by Suzanne Leimer

Suzanne Leimer created two quilts using 1930s reproduction fabric and had them on display at her store, Suzannes Quilt Shop, in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. In the past six months these two quilts were stolen.

The first quilt that was stolen is a 57″ by 76″ log cabin pattern which she had made from 100% cotton 1930s fabric she had been collecting for ten years. The quilt was machine pieced and machine quilted in an all-over stipple pattern. The center of the log cabin is a solid yellow and the binding is solid pink. Cotton batting was used. The backing is a P&B print that is off-white with a pink design. The quilt did not have a label.

The log cabin quilt was stolen on Saturday, August 20, 1999. Five yards of pink 1930s reproduction fabric was stolen at the same time. The picture shown to the left (top picture) is not the quilt Suzanne made, but it is from the book “Housewarmers” by Possibilities which she used to make the quilt. (Log Cabin photo is used with permission from Possibilities.)

All Creatures by Suzanne Leimer

All Creatures by Suzanne Leimer

The second quilt was stolen from the same store on Saturday, January 15, 2000. All Creatures Great and Small was made using the second book in the Blessing Quilt Series by Four Corners. This quilt has hand embroidery, hand applique, machine piecing, and machine quilting. It is 41″ by 47″. Most of the fabrics are 1930s reproduction prints and all fabrics are 100% cotton. The narrow inner green border is a star print on a green background by Marcus. The outside border is a pink check by P&B Fabrics. The backing is white with small pastel flowers, also by P&B Fabrics. There was no label on this quilt.

This quilt had been on display, clothes-pinned to a lattice wall at the front of the store when it was stolen. The second picture is from the Four Corners book; it is not Suzannes quilt. (All Creatures Great and Small photo is used with permission from Four Corners.)

Both of these quilts were to be for a future granddaughter. If you have any information about either of these two quilts, please contact Suzanne at suzqu@bellsouth.net or 561-798-0934 or visit her quilt shops webpage.
