Recovered! Charming Circles

Jun 03 2010

Charming Circles by Kimberly Einmo

Charming Circles by Kimberly Einmo

In January 2010, Kimberly Einmo had reported that her quilt, "Charming Circles," was stolen. It was one of several quilts that were passed around at the Scrap and Sew Open House Event in Lutz, Florida. There were about fifty people in attendance and the store did not have security cameras, so there is no way to know who might have taken it.

On June 3, 2010, Kimberly wrote,"I’m very happy to report that Charming Circles has been RETURNED to me! I promised amnesty — no questions asked — if whoever took my quilt would return it. The quilt was returned to me last week and I promised I would not give the details other than to say it may have been an honest mistake that the quilt was taken in the first place. The bottom line, I am thrilled that the individual did the right thing and returned the quilt to me. Happy ending!"

This quilt is featured in her new book, "Jelly Roll Quilts & More." It is an original design of arc blocks set in horizontal rows and rotated to create circles. It is 22" square. Kimberly used modern, bright colors including the Woodland Bloom fabric line by Lila Tueller.

Recovered! Fish Tank

Fish Tank by Nancy Ryan

Fish Tank by Nancy Ryan

Nancy Ryan was hoping someone had seen her original quilt, “Fish Tank.” It was last seen on April 27, 2010 in Gainesville, Florida. It had been displayed at the Quilting Natural Florida II Exhibit and was being returned by a commercial shipping company. The company said it was delivered to her California address and left on the front porch. When Nancy returned home, the package was no where to be found.

Thankfully, one month later, Nancy reported that her quilt had been recovered! The shipper had delivered it to the wrong address, and it is now safely back home with Nancy!

This quilt was made in 2009 and is 36″ wide by 24″ long. Nancy used bright batiks, especially turquoise and orange. The quilt is appliquéd and machine quilted with specialty threads. Fancy machine stitches were used when the sheer fabric was applied.

Earth-Tone Pillow

May 05 2010

Virginia Baeten hopes to recover her missing patchwork pillow. It was last seen in the 1970s in a grocery store parking lot on Wisconsin Avenue, Appleton, Wisconsin. She and her husband were transporting parts for her husband’s job, and they were in a very uncomfortable truck. Virginia was using the pillow as back support. She thinks it must have fallen out of the truck when they stopped, or it is possible it was stolen. It was missing five or ten minutes before they noticed it was gone. They reported it to the store and left their name and phone number, but never got a called.

The pillow is about 9 to 12-inches square. The main colors are rust, cream, and brown. She remembers there were half square triangles forming the design. It was hand pieced and hand quilted with beige thread, and sewn together on the edges by machine. The backing was probably brown or rust.

Virginia writes, "This was my first quilt project that I made while taking a quilting class in Kimberly WI. I now teach quilting and would love to have my first project back." If you have this pillow, please contact Virginia at vbaeten@charter.net.

The pillow was hand pieced and hand quilted with beige thread and sewn together on the edges by machine. Backing was probably brown or rust.

Asian Elementals

Apr 03 2010

Asian Elementals by Stephanie Vesik

Asian Elementals by Stephanie Vesik

Stephanie Vesik is searching for a quilted wall hanging called "Asian Elementals" which she made for Samuel Stem. It is an original quilt which is approximately 70" high by 50" wide. This quilt was last seen in New Braunfels, Texas. It was in a backpack strapped to a motorcycle. Someone cut the straps on the backpack and stole the bag with the contents.

Stephanie used four Kona Bay Emperor panels which she machine quilted and bound with black cotton. Each panel is hand embroidered to emphasize the gold foil highlights. Each panel is individually quilted to represent fire, air, earth, and wind with a Japanese symbol in the top banner’s binding. Each panel is held to one another by means of Velcro bridges. This was done so the quilt could be displayed either as a traditional two by two panel quilt or as a banner with four across. Each panel has two loops at the top for hanging. Stephanie labeled each panel on the back with black ink. It says, "To Grim (heart symbol) Steph."

If you find this quilt, please email Stephanie at firizia@yahoo.com.

I Thought They Were Deer by Cindy Sanders

On January 7, 2009 Cindy Sanders mailed a quilt to her brother from Pompano Beach, Florida but it never arrived. It is possible that the label fell off. She wrote letters and gave photos to the shipping company, but she got no response.

Cindy used a commercial pattern to create this quilt. It is approximately 54″ x 72″. The main colors are oranges, browns, and greens. There are also several photos on the quilt. One is a man (Cindy’s brother) by a horse, and the Viet Nam Memorial statues and wall. A large machine-embroidered eagle is on the lower right corner. There are some fabrics with horses, moose, and Army designs.

The quilt has a label which says, “I Thought They Were Deer / From the Heart and Hand of Cindy Sanders / Pompano Beach, FL / For my Brother Rick Mayo / In Honor of his service in Viet Nam / Christmas 2008.” The label is hand sewn with a blanket stitch to the lower back left corner.
